Justify this.....
by ashish sharma on Sep 26, 2007 10:50 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I want to ask one simple question to a Pro Reservationist.

There is one IAS's son, and the son of the driver of IAS. The Civil servent's son gets best condotions at home, best school and best private tuitions. The driver's son goes to Govt. school, fights poverty, and cant afoard Tuition. Still the latter gets 80% marks and the former 55% marks. In any instituiton of India, the IAS's son will ask for reservation, because he is from an "OPPRESSED" community, and say that the "UPPER CASTES", to which the driver belongs, have oppressed him. Is this justified.

For those who ont know about this, reservation when first introduced, was just for 10 years, and was supposed to go after that time. but only thing it has done is that it has been increased. Supporters of reservation on caste system say that it should be in proportion of the population. I ask them one thing. Do you think that since start, reservation ha not brought change in even 1% populaiton? If yes, why include that in the calculation. And if not, what makes you think that something which has failed for more than 50 years will not fail in future? and why shouldnt we search for better policies?

Yes, there is a need to remove disparity, which has grown wider in last few years. But that disparity didnot see tha caste of the person. Reservation should be for one who didnot have "OPPORTUNITY" and not for one who is from some caste which was suppressed centuries ago.

well my dear sir, as far as eating from a chat bhandar is cocerned, i will go to the one who sells chat which tastes better.

and to add to this, i would like to inform you that i am personally against caste system. it creates more problems than solutions (if there are any). i dont ask the caste while making them my friends . if we wnat to see India progress, i think we better start looking beyond the castes and start giving priorities to real issues to today, which for me are econimic disparity.

Ashis you are right. This is what most right thinking Indians feel and do. National issues are much greater than caste or region or religion. A real freindship or love never looks at caste or money.

Hai AAi SCST,

1. Nice remarks!

2. In Mysore city, there is a sweetmeat shop. He makes extrordinarily tasty jalebies. I belong to one of the upper castes. I regulary buy from that shop. All of us including my mother who is an orthodox lady relish the sweets. Till date we have not asked him directly as to which caste he hails from and whether the person who prepares these jalebies is from forward or backward caste. However, we know that the owner is from backward caste & the cook? GOK! There are hundreds like me who buy from that shop.

There is another shop owned by a Brahmin. He prepares the best snacks in the city. His shop is overcrowded any time you visit him. He is one of the most courteous persons in the city (he deserves an award for being courteous). People from all religions throng his shop to buy the tasty snacks.

What is the lesson you learn from the above two true stories?

Quality is the word! Who cares as long as the quality is good?

Translating this into the story of the OBC officer's son versus driver's son narrated by Ashish Sharma, as long as the former gets good marks in the exam no one minds it. However, getting a seat at the cost of the driver's son is illogical & can happen only in a country like India.

While in the army we had three cooks in the mess, one a Christian, one a Muslim & another a Brahmin. None of us questioned their caste since we belonged to a decent establishment.

I do not mind eating chat from the latter's shop if it is good.

Sir, the minimum requirement to ascertain who is better is to try both of them. One who turns out to be better wins. Now who is provided the first chance does not matter here. Even if the chamar chaatwaala is given the second chance but provides a much better quality and taste, people wld ditch the Upper caste chatwaala who they tried first. By nature, human beings care about the money they earn by working so hard and hence, will always go for an option where they get most value for their money.

hey scst
ONE THING IS CLESR FROM UR ARGUMENT HERE THAT NO MATTER WAT ANYONE SAYS THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT BOTHERED ABT THE NAME AND CASTE OF THE CHAATWALLAH, U ARE GOING TO PERSIST ON IT. SO ITS CLEAR THAT ITS NOT THE OPEN CATEGORY PEOPLE WHO ARE CONCERNED ABT THECASTE, ITS THE RESERVED CAREGORY THEMSELVES!!!!
GENERALLY PEOPLE DONT ASK THE FAMILY DETAILS AND CASTE BEFORE GOIN TO A HOTEL, OR CHAAT WALLAH, OR FOR THAT MATTER UR CLASSMATES OR THE PERSON WHO SHARES UR DESK IN SCLOOL, BUT IN INDIA ITS THE CASE OF THE RESEEVED PEOPLE CRYING FOUL SIMPLYY.....
SO BROTHER JUST KEEP UR MOUTH SHUT AND KEEP ON ENJOIYNG UR RESREVD STATUS,OK? BCOS ANYWAYS U ARE ENJOYING THE BENEFITS , SO WHY CRIB?? U FIRST COME OUT OF UR COMPLEX, THEN THINK OF URSELF AS A HUMAN BEING , WHO IS EDUCATED AND CAN THINK GOOD/BAD FOR HIMSELF AND CAN MAKE HIS LIKE ON UR MERITS, i.e.with hard work no matter watever field, learn to live in this with without ur caste certificate then enter into discussions with others. BECOS , WE ALLL KW THAT U ARE GETTING THE BENEFIT WHICH U DONT DERSERVE, WHEREAS PEOPLE WHO ARE PUTTING FORTH THEIR VIEWS HERE HAVE LOST THEIR RIGHTFUL JOB,OR SEAT BECOS OF SOMEONE LIKE U.( BUT WE ARE HELPLESS) SINCE WE ARE INDIANS,OK?

Dear aai scst,

1. You have a point.

2. Instead of writing your real name, you are writing aai scst. Without menaing anything to hurt you, suppose your full name is Ass Among Idiots, would you like to write it without any fear? Friend, there are many asses or idiots in this world but they never openly declare the same bacause they also possess elements called "Wisdom" and "Common Sense". Similarly, no Chamar will write his shop's name as Chamar Chaat Bhandar for obvious reasons. He is not bothered about caste politics but only about the quality and his business.

respected DrYNI Anand
i highly appreciate your comments, and feeling my name doesnot make any differnce, though my name did figured associated with aaiscstin the same discussion board, your view of "Chamar Chaat Bhandar for obvious reasons" if you can explain those obvious reason that why any upper caste person can write his catse produally and not by others. even though they may be at par as far as merit is concerned. and what is merit?

merit is nothing but, an exposure / opportunity makes the one meritorious . if you are born in lower caste than you donot get exposure / opportunity . make education atpar & free in India. than only all persons those things that merit is their birth right will come to the facts that it is only poor/ lower castes people only running this our India. most of highlly meritorius indian are doing slavery to western world with regards thanks for calling and giving name of your choice.
