Rafisaab is always with us and he will continue to remain so for ever. His style of singing and his way of injecting imotion into a song, well anyone ever match him? The answer is NO and NEVER. Life means nothing to me without his songs. It is very sad that we lost him too early. Wo door ke musafir ........
No one can match melody and excellence of Rafisaab voice.it touches ones heart.Even after 26 years he remains in hour hearts he rules our hearts thru his melodious songs. v.k.dassani
Telling something in favour of Rafi aab is just like, to show lamp in front of Sun. I would say he was alone greatest singer in India, which has sung all kind of songs such as Fimly, Gazals, Bajans, Qwalis, Classical, Sad, Happy, etc.
Rafi saabs was a golden voice, very much angelic. He could move people to tears and bring in romantic moods at his will thru a god given voice that cannot be matched for generation, only sonu nigam comes close to create that effect.
We should consider ourselves to be blessed having heard the immortal voice of Rafi sahab. There is nothing more we can say about the man, the performer who has enchanted whole generations .
Some interesting facts about Rafi Sahab:
1) He loved homemade tea specially prepared for him, which he used to bring during the recordings. The tea used to be made with lot of milk , boiled and thickened
2) He gave Rs. 500/- each to Laxmi-Pyare when he recorded his first song with them (tere pyar ne mujhe gum diya). He told them to keep it and remain as a jodi
3)He was modest to the core of heart and used to speak very little. In words of famous singer Bhupendra, he changed his singing style with mere 10 minutes of counselling session
4) He always thought of improvements. When he was at the peak of his carrear and Khayyam was still establishing himself, he told him that "give me some very good song, mujhe kuchh bana do"
To me Rafisab has been the dictionary definition of melody and variety in Hindi film music. There never was and will never be anyone to come anywhere near his extraordinary repertoire. Yes i miss him and shall continue to do so esp because way back in the 60,s we had the honor of hosting this great man in our house in CHENNAI. He was a great friend of my father (late Sri YGP) and i was a thunderstruck kid of about 10 listening to him in our home.
Hi, I really miss rafisaab every day though I was very young when he left us. Am into singing a bit and can understand what he was capable of. The great man gave us so many melodious songs that we can hear going to bed, waking up, driving, eating and whatever else you do. It is extremely difficult for me to think of just one fav song. Some of the songs I hear a lot are "Zingadi bhar nahi bhoolege woh barsat ki raat", "Maang ke saath tumhara", all songs from kashmir ki kali etc....it just goes on.. Cheers Nagesh
There can never be a singer as great as Rafisaab. His singing used to bring out the soul of any song. His repertoire was vast and his voice simply magic.I have nevr heard more sincere a voice. He used to pour himself totally into the song. His humility and dedication came across in his singing. The result was ethereal. My most favourite Rafi number is " Aapke haseen rukh pe aaj naya noor hai..." from " Baharein phir bhi aayengi"
