A great singer whose voice was magic. It was so sweet and melodious. I think it was Rafisaab's voice which gave Shammi Kapoor so many hits.A versatile singer and very humble man.

Rafi meant nothing to me. When it comes to music he was great, and he has time period to thank for that. If Rafi himself was alive in this era, I would gaurntee that he would have hard time surving as singer. Because now days, We have Sonu Nigam, Himesh, Abhijeet, Sukhvinder singh. These are foundation of todays bollywood. I think Rafi got big because there were few singers competing and lot songs to be sang. I am not saying that he had no telent, ofcouse he was great singer. All I'm saying is that lyrics of the song he sang were almost like language spoken by gods. I would give full credit to lyrics and than time himself. Because if he was facing competition that singer nowdays faces, he would have to work his ass off just to survive. N e one offended by what I say....

U R sick man, u r a hypocrite as well, you mention 'personally ..nothing 'and show your inside (as black as coal) by writing this crap.I will agree to what you say,Just find someone who can sing Rafisaab's 1 song (the most simplest, easiest)from among all in a much better way than what he rendered. The singers of current generations are what they are because of the absence of Rafi,Kishore and Mukesh.Ask from Anu Malik to Rajesh roshan to Himesh Reshamiya and Ismail Darbar and you will know how much they miss them.Your name is Mayur but your message reminds one of the peacock's legs not its beautiful feathers.

it is a pity that someone like you failed to appreciate mohd.rafi. for your info, in his days, there were great singers like talat mahmood, manna dey, mahendra kapoor etc. I agree that some songs had great lyrics, but in a movie like dosti where the lyrics are simple day to day words, the songs were elevated because of rafi. Rafi saab became famous because he had the voice of god. To let you know, he sang some movies just for free because the producers were in debt and he wanted to help them. Also if you know, mohd rafi never demanded a specific amount of money, but just accepted whtever the producer gave him. He was a great and kind human being apart from being a legendary singer. Whether you like him or not, thts the truth and i hope you realise it. If you need more singer's names from that era who were a competiton to rafi saab, let me know, will give you a list.

From your mail, one can infer that you have not yet realized the full potential of Rafi saab. Competition was always there and will always be there. Today's singers are also good; let us see how many of their songs will survive after fifty years.

Rafi saab was not only talented but was also hard working. As Anu Malik said, when Anu Malik went to the studio for recording for his first movie early in the morning, Rafi was there ahead of him practising the song!

Hello Mr. Jerk aka Mayur...

I don't want to seem distasteful, but even Rafi's fart would be more melodious than nasal melodies of today's Reshammiya, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Kumar Sanu and others. Please keep ur intellectual thoughts to urself. This comment of yours also shows you don't know the ABCs of music.

God, this is the first time I am hearing somebody speaks badly about Rafi saab. I doubt you have listened to at least a few of his songs or the very first Hindi song you happened to listen is 'Aashiq banaya aap ne'. Why Rafi is remembered by genuine music lovers even after 25 years of his demise? Why modern day singers are trying to imitate him, the answer is simple just that he is Great.

Also it is not fair to compare contemporary singers with somebody from Rafi's era, the same way comparing Bradman and Tendulker is ridiculous. In his era the song recording methods were different, there was no track system, and there was no mixing and modulating. I am not against present singers but I am sure it will be embarrassing for Himesh Reshammiya when you compared him with the great Rafi.

See what Kishore(another legend) had to say when Jagjit Singh criticized Rafi, " How dare these so-called ghazal singers criticise an icon that Manna Dey, Mukesh and I dare not criticize ? ".

Rafi was a good human being and an extremely humble person. Once, when a lesser-known composer who didn't have enough money to pay him, Rafi charged a fee of one rupee and sang for him. Rafi was unique.

My dear it seems that you don't know A B C D of music and sargam. An yof the singer of these days are no where in comparision to those singers. Even Bhupinder, Suresh Wadekar, Yesudas are far better than these new mushrooms. Singging song on the support of technological support and facility to correct your errors and your pitch too any duffer can be a singer if he has marketing capabilites. I am not saying that Artist like sonu nigam, kumar shanu and others are bad but they are very mediocre and they are surviving just copying the old days emprors of Music.
it is my humble request to you before commenting like this go and see the recording of new singers and see the efforts of sound engineers to make them gooood. It is also advisable that you must differentiate between orchestra and melody.
Thanks

Op

Rafi Saab- A Tribute
by Preetam Mohanty on Jul 31, 2006 05:55 PM  Permalink

. Twenty-five years have passed since Rafi Sab left us for his heavenly abode. But the feeling still remains. Rafi Saabs voice was perfect to the T. And his renditions of words with exact pronunciations were legendary. Many have tried to copy his style of singing. No one has even fulfilled twenty five percent of what he was giving in terms of voice quality, range and emotions. Choosing the best song he sung for the Screen heroes is a very difficult task. There are many, in fact almost all. Still then, as a top of the mind approach in this category i.e. favourite songs for particular heroes, is mentioned below:

Dilip Kumar: Aaj Ki Raat Mere, Dil ki Salaami Le Le- Ram Aur Shyam
Shammi Kapoor: Janam Janam Ka Saath Hai Nibhaane Ko _ Tumse Aachcha Kaun Hai
Dev Anand: Tere Mere Sapne Aab Ek Rang Hai- Guide
Jeetendra : Mast Bahaaron Ka Main Aashiq - Farz
Rajendra Kumar: Aye Nargise Mastaana Arzoo
Shashi Kapoor: Pardesiyon Se Akhiyaan Milaana- Jab Jab Phool Khile
Sunil Dutt: Aap Ke Pehlu Main Aa Kar Ro Diye- Mera Saaya
Dharmendra: O Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai
