Very poor communication/management skills of Mr. Sarkar
by techie Jr on Feb 23, 2007 06:31 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I feel is vengsarkar is not good at talking to the press. The way he talks surely discourages and pushes the player into pressure. He has very poor management skills. The facts should be talked smoothly and do what ever he wants with out hurting the people. The statment "If he is not able to prove his fitness in the Deodhar Trophy match, he will not go to the World Cup," is really a foolish statement. Instead he should say "We wish pathan will prove his fitness. We are confident on his skills. In case if he (pathan) can't prove his fitness we (selectors) will discuss how to proceed" In reality both has the same meaning. Sametime he should be rigid while taking decisions. I am not favoring pathan. I am talking about management skills.

I think he for the first time in selectors history there is a deserved candiddate who has all the technical know how how picking a person. Also the knowledge about the game of his cannot be less then anybody. And the air of swagger and I-know what am doing attitude is very good in the scheme of things. He sounds confident and should let him be allowed to do his job his way. He is paid to pick a side not be smooth or rough and if he thinks he should be that then he knows better. Also if the players cant take a bit of that here how are they equiped to take it during sledging in a presure game?

well if you are at this level as a player such words should motivate, not demoralize if you have it in you..
and i guess the following is not de-motivating at all, he clearly states form wont be taken into consideration which should completely relax pathan.
"We will watch him in the match, because I feel match-fitness is very important. He hasn't played any game since that match in Baroda [against the West Indies on January 31] so I hope he can prove his fitness. We will not monitor his form, but fitness will be very important for Pathan," Vengsarkar said.

We want people who are honest and upfront, not somone who are just diplomatic, or saying things which are pleasing to hear.

I am not saying selectors should be soft. My feeling is Selectors
(not just selectors anybody) should be strong and rigid on their views.
But those who are management/decision making position should be
soft/encouraging.

I accept even Mr. Sarkar tried okay to encourage. But his words are
extreame on eitherside. These kind of extreame words works positive
only if the palyer is in good form, because at that time he thinks
(and takes) only positive comments. Where as if the player is pathan
kind of mental state, surely gets demoralized.

And I don't accept that we "don't need someone who are deplomatic"
Most of the people take the word deplomatic as negative meaning. But thats not correct.
I see deplomatic as the synonym of "wise". Big question is wise/deplomatic is for what?
We need someone who uses his deplomatic skills for the betterment of indian cricket.
Not for the betterment of his personal affairs.

Again I am not anti to Mr. Sarkar. I like him as a player and also as a selector.
I never questioned his decision. He is rigid, I want him to be rigid, but I want him behave smart.
