media sulk - amazing
by Mukesh Kumar on Apr 06, 2007 03:41 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

There are few issues on which I differ:

1) Why r u referring so much abt mumbai biasedness of BCCI. why at all the question. Sachin is not bad enough to be dropped, considering there are not enough replacement. He is at least better than shewag and uttappa. So there is no question of mumbai biasedness and consequent conclusion that he will not be dropped bcoz of power and company.

2)If you think that sachin speaks on chappel just bcoz of his reputation, then its ur thinking. Everybody is entitled to think in their own way. I don't think so. I think he said so bcoz he was hurted. Its duty of media persons to not consider the full context, rather postmortem each sentence and word, and draw inference from that. When sb speaks then he speaks in a flow and by a collection of sentences, he tries to convey what he feels. Out of a series of sentences sth may come out in between by which sb else draw sth else. Its not fair. Instead of doing postmortem on each and every sentence ppl shud give attention to whole context and body language. That gives more clear picture and gives the totality. Sachin is not like president or PM of india, so that his speech wud have been prepared and analysed by lot of experts. He was speaking spontaneously. And in spontaneous speech its quite possible that u speak some sentence trying to convey sth and ppl can draw entirely different thing from that. Bcoz there are so many intellectual and honest media person in india waiting to scrutinize ur dialogue sentence by sentence.

3) Regarding ur mention of double century episode in pakistan: Its obvious that sachin wanted to complete double century and feeled unhappy after declaration but he may not be too wrong.

All players relishes their personal achievement. And if u say player shud not give a damn thinking to their personal achievement then all players are wrong not only sachin, bcoz all players give importance to that. It become problem only when it come at the cost of team interest. If it is aligned to team interest then it is perfectly ok. So we have to judge that whether sachin intention to make double century was against team interest? If it wasn't then there is no problem. We can't scrutinize him just bcoz he wanted to make double century. Who will not prefer that. So lets decide whether it was against team interest.

According to leaked information there was continuous communication between sachin and dressing room, and they settled with some number of overs. sachin was playing according to that. Then yuraj got out and dravid declared before settled number of overs. Sachin was unhappy on the fact that they settled on sth and ended with sth else. Unhappiness was not just on not making double ton but also on the fact that sb didn't keep the promise. So here sachin was not doing anything against team. He was doing only what was discussed. So I don't think it was wrong. You can argue that he shud have increased the run rate without needing all those dialogue. But the problem was not of run, it was of remaining overs in the day. India has already scored more that 700 runs. That was enough to win the match. So even if he played a bit slowly costing 25-30 runs, it doesn't matter. Whether team score 700 or 730 it doesn't matter. Both are enough score. Regarding overs he did what they discussed.

He might have given preference to his inning in post-tea session. Because by tea he was playing well. We expected him to accelerate in post tea session, but he din't. That was deuation of just 10 overs. So even if he preferred his inning rather than team for that 10 over, this fact cannot make him a selfish. Nobody, in the world remains perfect all the time. If sb gave preference to team for entire career and gave preference to himself for just one session of one match, it doesn't make him selfish. Even the nicest of human being must have made some mistake. PPl character shud be judged by average or normal behavior not by some aberration. There are ample proff that he gave preference to team mostly.

After that issue was blown by media. On that day sachin and dravid had personel meeting and after that everything was fine. Sachin did just one mistake. On his way to pavellion media person asked him "r u unhappy". At that moment he was really unhappy and said exactly what he was. He said he was taken by surprise. That was the only mistake that he did. Spoke those two sentence to media. Everything else was fine. But issue was blown by media. Just few moments of miscommunication and unhappiness became question of character and dedication toward nation. Do u think sachin shud not feel sad irrespective of whatever happens just bcoz he is a player.

Players are also human being. Basic nature of human like feeling sad, feeling happy, small dailylife liking, disliking and differences can happen to players also. Its basic nature of human being that can happen to the writer of this article too. But when these things happens to our dailylife, nobody knows. At the same time if it happens to players, issue used to be blown out of proportion by media and we start raising question on character of player toward nation. Basically the reality is of small importance but what we come to know and perceive becomes a big thing like question mark on player dedication, character etc. Tell me one thing. Aren't our soldiers, who go on border and die for country and known to be patriots, involve in daily life differences within their society and family. They used to be. And it is bound to happen irrespective of anybody profession, be it player or soldier or engineer or doctor. Because we are first human being and then any professional. The only difference is that when sth happen to normal person nobody knows. But when it happens to celebrity or players who remains under media scrutiny, issue used to be blown by media. Then activity which are part and parcel of daily life become question of patriotism. So problem is not with sachin or dravid. It is with media.

3) sachin desire to open: what is the problem if sachin thinks he can help the team batting at opening slot. Every players used to have fix position and they like that. Ponting comes at one down. Gilchrist and hayden come as opener. Jaysuriya is opener. Lara and kallis is middle order batsman. Some players are suitable for particular slots. Also, if sb play for a long time on some slot he is bound to have affection with that slot. So if sachin feels he can play more freely at opening slot what's the problem. He has been playing on that slot since 1994. Don't u think that if sb play at fix slot for 12 years then he will feel comfortable at that slot. If u don't think so then u r not human being.

Sachin just said his preference. He said when media person asked the question. He didn't call a media interview and declared his preference to put pressure on chappel. He just gave honest reply to a question without any wrong intention. what's wrong with that. Don't we expect honest reply from sachin if we ask sth. And finally he did what team wanted against his preference. Isn't it sufficient. what do u want. Do u want to control him his liking also. Can any human being control that. Happiness, unhappiness, preference are the essential part of behaviour that u can't control. U can give a rational thought and decide what is better and take decision accordingly. But u cannot control those behavioural characteristics. Sachin did the same. Although he has particular preference, he gave a thought and decide that whatever team management saying may be valid and did bat down the order. Isn't that sufficient. If u think that his reply may have caused some chaos then guilty is the media who asked the question.

CONCLUSION: EVERYTHING IS FINE IN WORLD. ITS MEDIA WHO MAKE EVERTHING WRONG. ITS MEDIA WHO CONVERT BASIC NATURE OF HUMAN BEING INTO QUESTION OF NATIONAL CHARACTER. HENCE PLAYERS ARE FINE, WHAT THEY DO ARE ALSO FINE, BUT THE ROOT OF EVERY ISSUE, EVERY PROBLEM IS MEDIA.

So you think that our country of one billion people dont have good batsman. Tell me how much chance do you give to a newcomer, we always see the same faces when we are playing our cricket. We see the same combination of Ganguly, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuvraj, Dhoni, In spinners- Kumble or Harbhajan ( Powar is a much better spinner who is wasted), Zaheer, pathan, Agarkar (poor Sreesanth has to sit out sometimes)....So you see basically we have the same team playing again and again...top 4-5 positions are fixed what we change sometimes is the middle order or just the player position of play...........When we dont give options / chance to other players how do you know that we dont have talent. For a change we have Suresh raina, who will score at his best 15-20 runs. Dont we need a change, we are really bored to see the same players, same boring fares, same going through motions, same failures

You are really good at writing. Kudos to you. Looks like you are into some editorial. Anyway, I would like to give you some reason why most of us don't go with you on your views,

1) First of all if anyone is playing bad, then its bad for our country. After all giving a comparison between Sachin and Sehwag doesn't hold any good. Bad is bad, less or more doesn't really matter. So dont try to give this kind of justification.

2) A player of Sachin stature should have not spoken to the media. After all Chappell didn't speak about any particular player. He didn't name anyone. A person tries to defend himself only when he has done something wrong or he has been named in a false case. If you look at the current issue, then all the finger points to Sachin, because he came out and started defending himself though he wasn't names directly. So it shows the kind of mentality he possesses.

3) A player like sachin should not bother opening the batting or playing in 5th position. He was asked to play in middle order so that he could support the team with his batting skils in case if wicket falls quicker. Better read this, it will give you more clarification.

Last but not least, not everything is fine. Its a corporate world buddy. Better you perform, better you get paid. If you don't perform, you will be shown the door. Same applies everywhere. After all, when a horse gets older, s/he will be shot dead because its no more affordable to keep on feeding the horse. So live with reality, and accept the truth. Please don't get emotional. There in no place for emotions in professional fields.

God Bless

Good one Shesh. Everything is fine in the world is the words of a loser. Even Aussies think their team needs improvement. Even when good companies are making huge profits, they are constantly thinking of improving.

All said, it is time for Sachin to go. Reg. his replacement, one needs to be groomed and till seniors hang-out in the team, youngsters will not get a chance.

Kumble does not have a replacement of his caliber but he resigned, correct?

Ha haa. What a nice story at the link you gave. Nice imagination. Who exactly gave that scene by scence narrative? Dravid, no! Sachin, don't think so. You people believe this story. It's too much of an imagination to think Chappell would tell Sachin to warm the bench. Even in NBA, only a relatively less profile player would be given such harsh words. People should think before they write such articles and people who read them should think before they conclude. What's wrong with you?
