Sachin speak
by Ashish Kumar on Apr 05, 2007 10:38 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Sachin spoke because he had understood the game plan. Chappel was attacking from back door to create a negative atmosphere before the meeting on the 6th & 7th. The BCCI, in the name of professionalism would hv supported Chappel. Therefore, like a solid batsman that he is, Sachin decide to play the straight drive which hit Chappel in the mouth. Result, he got exposed, had no other way but had to quit.
Reg failures in the WC:
Pl tell me if u hv a spat with yr father and then u go to take the CAT, r u likely to perform to yr abilities? Certainly not. This coach was keeping the players on tenterhooks, not talking to them for 3-4 days. In such a mental state if the players go to face balls at 140 KMPH, how can they perform. No wonder Sachin & Dhoni (what with Chappel-Dravid backed Karthik playing on his nerves) got foxed repeatedly, no wonder Saurav did not have the confidence of going all out for the team and no wonder Dravid never got into full flow. A coach is supposed to coach the team. Chappel, however, took over the entire man management. Dravid yielded because he owed his survival to Chappel (let us not forget Dravid succeeded the highly successful Saurav only because of Chappel)and finally Chappel mis-managed the team.
Going to the stats of Dravid-Chappels sucess, let us remember India defeated Pakistan in ODI AFTER Shoeb Akhtar was dropped from the team. So Pak was not on full strength. When in full strength, they had humiliated Dravid's India by 272 runs at Karachi with only Saurav and Yuvraj showing some spine. Similarly, England also was much below their normal strength. Shri Lanka which lost 6-1 was in shambles and badly lost elsewhere too. If analyse we shd that in the correct perspective. Dravid is an excellent batsman but his ambition to become captain sunk India to its present low.

Thanks for the complement, but u hv neither contradicted the facts nor found fault in the reasoning given. If we can not face facts then we r doomed to repeat the mistakes no ends.
If u think some one who is not on talking terms with the head of the management can perform in the field, u r living in yr own paradise. Mental state is extremely important for performance. Any management guru will tell u. We become so obsessed with our regional sentiments that we forget to apply basic principles of good management. I do not consider Saurav to b a batsman of the class of Sachin or Rahul but the man is definitely a better manager of men. I will hasten to add that going back to him can not b an option. We hv to find out new solutions
