One of my friends thinks that F1 drivers are given NAVIGATIONAL instructions about the circuit, like those given to WRC drivers throughout the race. I know for sure that radio communication between F1 drivers and their teams are not even remotely navigational, but rather are more of updates and discussions about race strategies, and race incidents.
Can you reply with the clarification regarding this? I will be able to clear my friend's misconception, that way.

Hi Nikhil,
F1 drivers do a recce before driving on the track. I've also heard that some of the teams use virtual circuits to know them better. I do think navigational support is in the terms of who's behind one driver, the difference in lap time, the car ahead of him, his speed etc., but not similar to the WRC where the navigator states each turn, corner and the like. I'm not an expert either. I think it's easier to understand if you are a regular viewer of the races.

Hi, Also in WRC, every info is required because the terrain is uneven. In F1,tracks are pretty even and teams are already familiar with them over the weekend before the race. Also, there is a warm-up lap before the race actually starts... So they know the structure of the track and they only need to know about the other drivers near to them and the team strategy over the radio.
