People you have to understand that the infaltion curremtly taking place is due to the ever rising cost of crude which is affecting markets and economies world over not just in India. In fact our PM is farsighted and has realised that an energy crisis may be in the offing.Which is why he wants to go in for the nuclear deal which will ensure a lot of independence from coal and crude in power generation. The PM has terrific vision of the future and I think we should respect him for that. You say that the nuclear deal will make us dependent on the U.S but right now we are dependent on Saudi Arabia, etc. for our crude aren't we. Moreover the Govt. aren't fools and I am sure that the U.S. will have minimum control over out Nuclear installations. Also we need not go to U.S. for fuel, there are several countries in the NSG (nuclear suppliers group) and eventually with tech. we will be able to utilise the vast nuclear fuel reserves which we already have.

Excuse me, if inflation is because of crude oil price rise, how will it come down by going in for nuclear deal?
Price of Coal is not going up. Our cars, buses, trucks, trains, mopeds, Autos, taxis, planes will still run on oil... So we will still be dependent on Saudi Arabia etc., won't we? And by the way, you are doing cyclic arguments - our government aren't fools so the US will have minimum control over our nuke installations... :-) And also by the way if there are several countries in the NSG or whatever, then why the heck do you want to sign this particular deal in the first place?... Go to open market and buy it (if that's so easy)..

and price of coal is not going up right now (it may in future) however coal being used now for power gen. can be diverted to synth. naphtha prod. plants so it will reduce our oil imports , do u get it ?

dude, if we reduce oil imports while maintaining the supply, then i guess we are a step closer to solving the infaltion prob

not petroleum, its crude. when crude oil is cracked/ refined - we get diesel, petrol , kerosene, naptha, and more in different percentage yeilds.

Yeah.. you have a point there. But tell me, why do you think US doesn't have any nuclear power plants installed after 1980? There power requirements are decreasing I take it..
Whereas Russia proved the efficacy of nuclear power through Chernobyl very admirably, ain't it?

TBPC uses naptha for power generation and generates 200 MW. one example

chernobyl and 3-mile were rude shocks to Russia and USA, but tech. is much improved now.In case u read yesterdays papers, in Poland or France or some place they are building this huge nuclear power plant and EU has welcomed this decision although earlier they used to be against nuclear power plants. It is a mega project employing the latest tech. and has been seen as a positive measure by all. Plus U.S. has lotsof oil too. they have Iraq u know

its best for long term. also every move against alternative energy makes the speculators nervous in dow, NY and they'll drop their bets for oil to head north.

nothing wrong with them too. hydro electricity destroys forest lands and is dangerous in earthquake prrne areas. wind energy is clean, same with solar, tidal. we have to invest in these for sure along with nuclear, multi pronged startegy. nuclear yields are very high - even by products can be reused for further power generation. only safety has to be double-treble sure.
