You know crude oil prices are allset to touch $200. Thats why alternate energy source is so imp.
Some times wonder if the crude oil is a US game to put additional preassure on India. With crude prices rising every now and then bargaining for nuclear fuel will be even more difficult in the future

Yes, I agree that the oil prices are rising and oil supply dwindling the world over, it will not last for ever and alternative fuel is needed. The question is why we have to make a deal over it with USA,India should have all the rights to develop and use nuclear energy without asking USA or any other nation for the matter. Why do we need any ones permission to do waht ever we in India wants to do. does any another nation asks India for permission on similar issues.

You guessed right, Mr. Maverick... I wrote about this on the board when the news of crude price touching $130 was published. It is truely the pressure game of US. Does that not mean the NPT is in interest of US and not in India's favour?

This deal is about the US putting some fine nuclear cheese on a mouse trap and the great Indian smelly rat is trying a way to get the most out of the cheese with the least amount of trap damage to itself.... The PM got his thing caught in the trap it seems :D

What world you live in Sheetal???? Anyways, here are some points to your GK start going.. - There is a dearth of infrastructure facilities/ projects in our country. We need lots and lots of iron and steel for heavy industries to work on these projects. So we need lots of power supply. - Our current power generation capacities are not sufficient to meet our domenstic demands. - Other than HydroCarbon energy, we have not done enough research on solar or other sources of energy. - Our current nuclear plants are based on Uranium fuel and to run those we need Uranium fuel which we may get from NSG(Nuclear Supply Group) - We have largest Thorium base in Jharkhand but again we do not have enough technical skills and research for nuclear reactors to run on Thorium. Our most learned president, Dr. Kalam had pointed out this long time back but government have not shown any initiative, like they always do. - Austrailia largest Uranium supplier have already said NO to us because we have not signed NPT. Result is, we have two nuclear plans ready to be commission are put on hold for indefinite time. - If we get this deal, we not only get Uranium to run our reactors but we also get necessary technology for power and energy base industry. - Left is opposing this deal because they feel that India can not perform Nuclear Test but this is not true. India have already said NO to Hyde act and thus can perform Nuclear Test if situation demands that.
