#1 FX Broker - Shares Mag 2007 NEW YORK, Jan 29 (Reuters) - MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co's MidAmerican Nuclear Energy Co said it has decided to end its pursuit of a nuclear power plant in Payette County, Idaho, because it would cost too much.
A spokesman for MidAmerican said Tuesday the company informed local elected officials of its decision on Jan. 25, posted the notice on its Web site and sent letters to Payette County residents.
"Consumers expect reasonably priced energy, and the company's due diligence process has led to the conclusion that it does not make economic sense to pursue the project at this time," Bill Fehrman, President of MidAmerican Nuclear Energy Co, said in the letter to Payette County residents.

nuclear energy has low operational cost than a coal power plant and it does not produce any greenhouse gases .... so it is better for the environment.

Sameer,
PM Brown is talking of 1000 nuclear plants across Europe. France produces 80% and Britain wants to increase their capability. China takes all from Australia. When we get the plants running after ten years (we may take twenty), where is the guarantee there would be fuel and then, at what price? Uranium is only in two countries Australia & Canada. We may have or may not. At the end of the day, we still are dependent on others for energy and can be in a rude shock. Already, solar is starting to make waves. So we have the options, but we are barking up the wrong tree & wasting time.
We have to see the issue from national interests. That looks to be a pipe-dream.

Brown is smoking the stuff his British troops are getting from Afghanistan. These are just boasts. Solar, wind, Geothermal..there are so many renewable source why go for costly, expensive dangerous nuclear.
