A speaker becomes apolitical after he assumes the chair. He has to become impartial. And, since we have taken our model of govt. from the westminster we aught to follow the british constitutional convention of speaker resigning from active politics once he steps down. He remains impartial and hence need not resign from his post under the present circumstances.

Did Chatterjee resign from his party after he became the Speaker. Please understand Indian constitution is a chimera. It says yes and at the same time No in relation to any articles therein. Gomang was CM yet he cast as an MP his vote in the Lok Sabha to vote out the Bajpayee govt. A CM and MP at the same time. Ha.

The speaker votes along with his party but his chair is apolitical in nature and hence he need not resign.

And to top it all, no action whatsoever for such big blunder on the democracy. Congress always played dirty politics. And now when in distress they are buying every possible MP by cash and carry method. Congress is a shame on our democracy.
