A speaker becomes apolitical after he assumes the chair. He has to become impartial. And, since we have taken our model of govt. from the westminster we aught to follow the british constitutional convention of speaker resigning from active politics once he steps down. He remains impartial and hence need not resign from his post under the present circumstances.
