Explained: Why BJP against the N-Deal
by Sameer Bhagwat on Jul 21, 2008 09:28 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The Pokhran Nuclear tests were the exact opposit of the N-Deal. The "N-Deal" as everyone calls it is an extension to the Nuclear non-proliferation treaty. What IAEA is saying is that all countries should sign up for this treaty and pledge a non-use of the Nuke devices for the defense purpose. This, if done by India, Pakistan will also follow. China and other N-power countries have already committed. If N-Deal go through, it will mean that India will be able to use its atomic reserve (meant for defense) in the domestic energy use (that means better electricity, better irigation etc., and also good for the environment). However, there's always a catch - and the catch says that since all atomic research/production centers will become non-defense areas, IAEA will have 100% visibility into it. That way India will have no "secret weapon" if ever needed. I hope, and wish that no one ever needs that secret weapon. But, at the same time, what if Pakistan or Iran do not sign? Once IAEA knows all about India's nuclear reserves, it might as well end up on the Internet! Pokhran was against the non-proliferation treaty (and that's why India had to face senctions). N-Deal is for the non-proliferation treaty. Understood?

Why on earth will India use nuclear defense facilities for power generation? That is NOT MANDATED by IAEA. 'India will be able to' but WILL NOT use it. What is a 'nuclear reserve'? Ammo? mines? none of them are a secret, everybody knows India has nuclear weapon capability. Whats the big secret that willbe splashed on the internet?

Helllo .. do you know where India keeps its nuclear missiles? Yes, everyone knows that India is an N-Power country - just like US, UK, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran and N. Korea. But no one (except for the RAW, the PM and a few elite of the Indian millitary) really knows how much uranium we have, where we keep it and how long it takes us from the raw components to the long range nuke-head missiles. This is the part where IAEA comes to picture. Also, though it is not mandated to use the raw components of a nuclear device (uranium, plutonim and other heavy metals) for domestic purpose. But that's the whole point. If everyone agrees, the govt can decide on freeing up these resources for the betterment of the nation. There is no "deal" in the Nuke-deal, except the fact that India can become more energy independent and flurish if everything goes well.

mr p , if i told you i had three dagers, 6 knives small size, 2 big size, one khukri and two small pistols exatly in my kit you would always prepare yourself to counter me under any circumstances.
But if i told i had knives , daggers, khukri ,pistols etc, etc,. you slightly unware of my strengths.
Now if i told you i have knives, daggers, khukris, pistols and some one informed you i had ak47 also..the suspence of me builds up further...
defence is more strategic.weapons are for defence and not attack.suspence is the greatence strength in all these scenario.

Now we all know our neighbours.can we expose ourselves and beg the us at adverse situation.

we need to think more, our neighbours dont keep up their words.can we be such a simpleton!
