Speaker's position
by G.Venkateswaran on Jul 17, 2008 03:16 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I wnat to bring to the notice of the readers two important points:
1. Can somebody tell me what is communal in politics. They term BJP as a communal party and will not align with them. But is not the PDP, IUML, and others communal too. All the parties do not have any reservations in aligning with these parties and will go to any extent in aligning with them. All the political parties are silent when the land given for the construction of the pilgrim centre to the Amarnath board is revoked. Is this secularism or communal. Parties supporting hindus are communal while parties supporting other communities are called secularists. It happens only in India
2. Shri. Somnath Chatergee should know that first and foremost he is an MP elected on a party ticket and then only he became Speaker of the Loksabha. Had he not been elected to the Loksabha based on party affiliations will he be elected as Speaker. If that is the case nominated members can become speaker. Why are people not highlighting these facts. Even the media is not doing so. I do not know why? If I am wrong kindly correct me.

Mr. Venkateshwaran ...
U r right. Had Mr. Chatterjee not been a member of Parliament from the CPM he wudnt have nominated for the speaker post. But The position of Speaker is also a Constitutional Post. A person gets selected for this Speaker post not only by his own party but by all MPs in the house and he was nominated by the majority. As a speaker a person has to leave his own political identity and lead the house as a neutral person...and he was doing so. Once a speaker is nominated for the entire term he has to run the house and he has to represent the house not a political party.
For ur kind information Mr. Chatterjee stopped attending party conferences as it might change his neutral views. He is a dedicated person, now as a speaker he is dedicated to Indian Constitution and after he complites his tenure ...he will be a dedicated Party member ...
He is a highly respected person and should be respected more for his commitment to the Indian contitution which none of his fellow partymen has.

BJP is the only true secular party in India. They are committing a blunder by voting along with anti national Communists!
