RE:Speaker's position
by Chatt on Jul 17, 2008 03:37 PM

Mr. Venkateshwaran ...
U r right. Had Mr. Chatterjee not been a member of Parliament from the CPM he wudnt have nominated for the speaker post. But The position of Speaker is also a Constitutional Post. A person gets selected for this Speaker post not only by his own party but by all MPs in the house and he was nominated by the majority. As a speaker a person has to leave his own political identity and lead the house as a neutral person...and he was doing so. Once a speaker is nominated for the entire term he has to run the house and he has to represent the house not a political party.
For ur kind information Mr. Chatterjee stopped attending party conferences as it might change his neutral views. He is a dedicated person, now as a speaker he is dedicated to Indian Constitution and after he complites his tenure ...he will be a dedicated Party member ...
He is a highly respected person and should be respected more for his commitment to the Indian contitution which none of his fellow partymen has.
