Nuclear Deal
by Meherwan Mehta on Jul 14, 2008 11:30 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Trust vote will be on 22nd July, whereas the IAEA board of governors are to meet over N-deal on 1st August. What if the Govt. loses the Trust vote ? Will the IAEA still meet on 1st August ? The Govt. needs to get it's act together and ensure it wins the vote by convincing the fence sitters in the parliament. The MPs should rise to the ocassion and vote as per merits of the case rather than narrow political considerations.

Mr.Mehta
The N-deal is 'AIRBORN'. You can meet HIM again only at the retiring room of port of destination.
Thanks to the POLITICIANS.
There is no precedence, when an agreement signed without consulting Parliament is put up for ratification, in rejecting the motion of approval.

It is not going to make any difference. The IAEA board of governors meeting is not a conditional one.
In the case of the UPA govt fail to get the required number only one thing is going to happen considering the present situation in Parliament, "elections". So till the next government takes charge after the elections the present govt is going to be the "caretaker" govt. According to the Constitution of India a Minority government and even a Caretaker government can go ahead with any treaty provided that treaty is not a new one. Since this treaty is an old one the govt can go ahead with it if sucha situation arises.
