The author seems to be from the panchsheel university. While sending troops to afghanistan, we should keep in mind the IPKF experience in Afghanistan, if we are hoping for some quick miracles, then we better not go there, but if we have some long-term 50-100 year plan of changing the whole religiopolitical flora and fauna, then we can go ahead, the problem is totally religiopolitical and has to dealt with by a firm powerful deep commitment which is really long-term. We should go only if we are confident that we will come back only if we are victorious. That victory is not possible unless we break up Pakistan into smitherens and change the color from green to white if not saffron. If we are not supremely confident and hell bent on changing the color of the sky, then there is no point in going. This battle cannot be won on the battlefield, it should go into the homes and the mosques, if we have the guts to do that, full steam ahead.

Vivek... lets assume India gets involved Militarily in Afghanistan.ok. In few years USA and NATO will pull our of Afghanistan. Then India will be left on its own. Do you really feel India can win in Afghanistan on its own? Think practically everyone. Afghanistan is not our war. Our defence should focus on kashmir china and other countries in our sphere of influence.

that is why I have clearly said that if we think that this is a 1-year or 2-year war, then it is wrong. If the USA and NATO pull out, in the long-term they themselves will have to face the consequences, if we are in this, we are there together, if we are divided, we will fall one by one, there can be no peace with this ideology, today if we take the initiative and do what it takes, we will win, we will have to change the concept of war, as I said this war has to be fought not just on the battlefield, but at places where we have never gone before, we cannot win this war with the old mindset. Now is the time to be bold enough to see the reality when it can still be changed.

There is no need for india to get involved in any long term war in Afghanistan. War cost money. Our defence budget is nothing compared to USA or NATO countries. Long term war in Afghanistan is not something that india can afford.
