Kidney
by arungopal agarwal on Jan 30, 2008 10:26 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

What is wrong in this trade? Kidney is not extracted by force or by kidnapping, it is a deal in between a poor fellow and needy through doctor where doctor is a big beneficiary. Govt. could not provide/eradicate poverty in the last 60 years of independence, everyone is minting money, nobody is caring to provide at least minimum guaranteed employment. Even if you punish Dr.Kidney Kumar, this may give temporary relief but trade will remain, if not in Delhi/Nodia -somewhere else

Dear Sastry Ji, people are giving their organs for the sake of money due to poverty.it is not the question, whether you will give or not. Under compulsions, many things are sold including your body.

You seem to be belonging to the same category as Dr. Amit, the Horror incarnate. How could you beleive that poor people willingly donate a key part of their body? In most such cases the doner does not even know what he is losing. All he knows is somebody is paying a chunk of money. He is unfairly lured and made to lose a big value from his body for a platry sum. Once he comes to know about it he is sure to repent deeply. But, it would be too late.

BTW are you an agant of Dr. Ameet?

Your message doesn't carry conviction. If you are pro these activities, then you should say that the doctor should not use this mechanism as a money making scheme. He should not buy/sell kidneys, rather he should counsel poor people on the value of their organ, and provide guidance on a suitable amount if they wish to go ahead, and then make this person meet the client and organize the "sale". Your not suggesting this option shows that you approve of doctors becoming pimps.

Also you are talking about kidney patients, but not bothering to give a seconds pause to people who lost their kidneys for meager amounts. So yours is a one-sided view. Do buying/selling, but keep people informed and let them get a good deal. Are you willing to lose some organ of yours for a few thousand rupees just because it is not required? Is this not hypocrisy?

Exploiting the poor doesn't sound like "wrong" to you? Giving poor a few thousand rupees and then selling the same to rich for a few lakhs, in the result make a few lakhs per patient. That seems like a good thing, but only to people without conscience. Don't make saints out of these third rate doctors and pimps.
