I am not ready to believe this completely
by Abhishek Banerjee on Jan 16, 2008 09:15 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I am a little surprised the tank Arjun is reported as "not tested enough". In fact, Arjun is the world's MOST TESTED main battle tank. The writer makes a lot of valid points. Fortunately, India has developed the BrahMos, though I am not certain the military has been supplied with it. Also the CPI(M), with instructions from China, has effectively blocked all cooperation with the US and Israel. But I think India has already inducted an old US warship into the navy and has inked the deal (under Vajpayee) that brings the Arrow missile shield of Israel to India. I hope the Chinese agents do not come to power again in 2009

I agree with you. These politician are playing with the security of the country.

Even a average person can understand the importance of nuke deal but these CPI's are not allowing it to materialise.

Something must be done at DRDO to motivate the scientist. I have seen when i scientist start his career with DRDO his salary is less than INR 10000. He takes few years exp. and then move to NASA or some other organisation.
If a person watch closely there are n number of incident that are enough to demotivate a scientist at DRDO.

This is the time to redefine the goal of DRDO.

Till recently, neither our research establishments have shown interest in approaching our universities nor have our univesities shown much interest in taking up projects of national importance.

DRDO can do with more autonomy. They always seem to be run to Delhi and wait for decisions from the political establishment or a corrupt beauracracy. Jaswanth Singh suggested changing union budget rules to allow bi-annual defence budgets.

DRDO can be lot smaller than what it is today. They can do without chauffers for lab directors and all those colonial hangovers.
