Apparently not. There is a Sholapur in Maharashtra as there is Nagpur. Both these places end with "Pur" or "pura" (or ur/ooru). There should be a subject called "Know your India" where they teach everyone about the different places. I am not talking about Geography/History here because they do not teach anything about specific places. This subject should also include languages, culture and historical importance of places too.

Yes, you are right. There are "Ur/Pur" in the north as well as the south. Bijapur and Anantapur are examples

The fixation is with "Uru", not "Luru". Actually you find this everywhere - Coimbatore, Kanpur, Bangalore, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur. Uru or Ooru means place/town/city. Hosur is another example. It means new place

Then the other fixation is with the "bad" - Hyderabad, Secunderbad, Ahmedabad, Adilabad and so on. There is also a Patna/Patnam/Pattinam fixation too. Nagapattinam, Shrirangapatna are examples along with Patna itself
