IS INDIA A NATION STATE ?
by SUDEEP GOSWAMI on Feb 16, 2008 11:23 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

For a moment, set aside MNS and the son of the soil aasertiveness.

Following issues continue to remain unresolved till date :

(1) Is India a nation state ? OR a motley collection of geographical areas balkanization of which is a matter of time ?

(2) Was there any evidence of territorial consciousness amongst Indians prior to Mughals & British ?

(3) Before "Vande Mataram", was there any national song to reflect territorial consciousness ?

(4) If India was a secular state, how come muslims wanted a separate homeland and got Pakistan (disconnect with cultural consciousness) ?

(5) Post partition, how come muslim appeasement policy is part of political doctrine of India ?

(6) How come India is a predatory state dividing its citizens into caste, religion, region, language etc. contrary to constitutional provisions ?

It is a political union which is a lot closer that Western Europe. All the Maharashtra haters love to give an example of a homogenous United States to justify their rants against the great state of Maharashtra.

See India is more like Western Europe. Andhra and its Telangana part is like Germany and Austria. Maharashtra and Gujarat are like like Spain and Portugal. Karnataka is as different from UP as Norway is different from Italy. There is freedom of movement in Europe - albeit the jobs are for each nation. Can you imagine the outcry in Germany if it gets swamped by the French or vice versa?

It is an experiment that is India. We all hope it works but its obsession for UP/Bihar at the cost of the other states(notably Maharashtra) is troubling to say the least.

Jai Maharashtra.
