A Great Loss to Humanity
by soumik kalita on Feb 09, 2008 10:05 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Baba Amte has been one of the greatest living Indians with the yeoman services done to humanity. The Magsaysay award means little to his stature and am surprised when people were fighting for nominating people for the Bharat Ratna this year nobody remembered the crusader. The Indian Governments long standing tendency to recognise people posthumously is a sign of the lackluster attitude of the people sitting in power in Delhi. Anyways Baba was above all awards!

People like Baba Amte lived in my time is a moment which i will cherish with my lifetme. A rare comodity in this consumers' world. Not a surprise that he is not recognised by Delhi since he was of no use for their ulterior motives. He was a fit contender for Noble Price. When mother Terresa can get it why not Baba. Infact Mother Terresa's did it with a mission of christianity and Baba did it with a mission of humanity.

Nitin, you don't need to bring religion here. Mother Teresa was motivated by her Christian faith to do good works and conversion was never her motive. She would pick up Hindus and Muslims from the streets of Kolkata where people would dump them to die. You mention about the Nobel prize for Baba Amte, which is an international award, whereas our leaders in India haven't even found him worthy to receive the Bharat Ratna, whereas they fight over nominating politicians. This is the country we live in, where doing good to others has no value!

The problem is people in Delhi are deaf. So are people on street. Nothing changed after Mahatama Gandhi's Death, Nothing will change after Baba's death. That is universal tragedy, happening since we consider ourself civilised
