Some inputs
by Firefox on Apr 11, 2008 02:10 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I have some inputs to give on saving the money.
1. See if you are really using your telephone landline and internet connection. If not disconnect it now. Savings : 1000Rs
2. Are you a bollywood fan and love to watch movies in multiplex. On an average one movie in multiplex for 3-4 persons costs 1000 Rs. Please read the reviews (not from Rediff) before going for movie and try to avoid some movies.
3. Are you using your car even though you have a bike to go to your office. Try to use the bike as much as possible. This will reduce your petrol cost to half.
4. Do you pay 500 Rs per month for your car wash. I dont think your car needs a wash every day. Rather you can spend 30 mins every weekend to wash your car and save 500 Rs.
5. Do you go out to eat chines or for pizza every week. Make it once in two weeks.
6. If you are stying in a rented house try to shift to a house which is close to your office having same or less rent. This way you can avoid petrol cost, plus you can spend more time with your family and the most important you can avoid traffic.
These are some tips which I could think of. Please add some more if you have.

nice suggestion. I think power savings bulbs will reduce your bill by atleast 300-400 Rs.
8. Also if you are planning to replace your mobile just because it is a year old try to use it for another year.
9. Most of the people forget this. But please make sure that your parents are covered under hospitalization insurance. My friends ended up paying 3 Lakh Rs last week for his fathers heart operation which he would have saved with insurance. This is a small amount but it is a must.

Whatever that is on not essential list is possibly wasteful expediture.

A roadside or neighbourhood laundry is not a big expense. It provides livelihood for a family, and more importantly, it SAVES your time.

I definitely agree that eating out regularly is wasteful. Home cooked food is more healthy and less expensive apart from giving you options to experiment and enjoy family time (help your spouse cook or clean).

Relocation is based on many things - nearness to schools, market places, social circle of all family members, etc. Workplace distance alone cannot be the deciding factor.

I agree with you. But changing a job is a short time solution. You cannot keep on changing the job every year. Also even though you are getting a very very high salary there is no harm in saving the money.

Common buddy.
I think my dream and almost every bodies dream is to have their own house and not to go to multiplex and have pizza everyday. So to achieve a bigger dream it is perfectly fine to save on these things. You may be getting a very very high salary every month. But that may not be the case with everyone.

I just want to add to the list:
. Try to get a better job if in private
. jyada malaidar location -if in corrupt services
. try to exert if it means more money eg paid overtime
. People in crtain cervices can even think of a part time job eg i know of a peon ; he has started selling roasted grains eg chana, peanuts etc
. Replace all bulbs with second hand CFLs
. If possible cook frugal & eat frugal : very less of pakwaan( fries)
. Reduce on liquor; if not changeover to DESI.
. No more NAWABI eg No more visiting prostitutes . If not avoidable negotiate or use cheaper ones . Think of reducing on frequency etc
. If using branded clothes ; Do not buy new ones. Postone until things improve.Think about more of combinations from the clothes you have .
. If you have to use a car anyway; Try to reach office before time, leave before time or late. This will save your fuel getting drained in traffic jams & unnecessary frequent breaking.
. ETC
