Surath Siddhanta You think if we sign a similar agreement with China or Russia , you think it wouldn't have any restritions? Any country you sign any agreement it is going to come with some rules and regulation. Nothing called FREE LUNCH. Growup. This the best deal India can get. Your China is not gonna make a deal with India. They dont want to see India as a developed nation. Countries which has close relationship with the US are doing great economically. Unike your Communist countries.

The fact is USA has a muscle to change the rules of Nuclear supplier group. No other country, even Russia has the muscle to do it. I would prefer if India can enter into similar agreement with Russia. Russia is our old and trusted friend. Unfortunately in this case its best to go ahead with USA.

What is your understanding of the problems from Hyde Act (not Hide) and what are you concerns about the nuclear deal? The Hyde Act is an US act and applies to US actions. The worst that can mean for us is stopping of nuclear fuel and economic sanctions. And that also acc to the agreement ONLY AFTER the US President's authorization and evaluation. The only reason that will happen is if India carries out a nuclear test. So the criticial question is : Does it impose India a leal binding not to test (like a traty)? Answer is NO. What is the possibility of such a test ? Acc to most nuclear scientists- VERY remote And what if India HAD TO do such a test? National security takes priority and ofcourse, we will ahve to be ready to part some of our power production capabilities with emergency management (there is provision for emergency reserves).

from SSM. Gentlemen, the matter is simple Though India has the technology for nuclear reactors ,it does not have the required amount of Uranium deposits. Our present power-reactors are running at 40 to 60 percent capacity due to lack of Uranium. As India has not signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty , none of the 45 nations Nuclear Supplier's Group can supply either Uranium or latest technology to India. The leaders of this group are USA , Russia & EU nations. China was in a similar situation . But by signing a similar agreement with USA ,(inspite of more severe conditions imposed like prior permission of USA for reprocessing spent fuel and inspections of reactors by Uranium suppliers etc ) they signed the 123 Agreement and got on with the job. They are building 31 nuclear power reactors in the next 10 years or 3 nuclear power stations every year for next 10 years.Due to urgency they have signed agreements for import of many reactors from USA.They have signed an agreement with Australia ( world's richest Uranium ore reserves ) agreeing to stringent conditions like entry and inspection of their reactors by Australian inspectors to ensure IEAE safeguards.

exactly subhasish... the need of the hour for India is ELECTRICITY...If in future we need to do nuclear test then we can do it. Let break this contract. Hopefully by then we will be able to generate our own power.
