Nuclear enegy

Mr Kakodkar's words are likely to fall on deaf ears, as the opponents are in a different wavelength. He has made a scientific case that leftists hardly bother.

1. We are dependent on 70% of our energy needs on imports mainly from the Middle East. That shows our present precarious position.
2. The price of oil can even hit $200 per barrel in times of uncertainties and futures are being sold at $100/barrel.
3. China has no problems in getting uranium from Australia and cooperating with US and others in areas of nuclear energy.
4. Vietnam is putting up a nuclear plant of 2000 mw with US assistance! Bangla Desh, Thailand, and even oil rich Indonesia & Malaysia are going this way. Pakistan will have no problems in getting one from their all weather friend, China.
5. We face difficulties in increasing hydro energy, while China put up Three Gorges dam to produce 18000mw.
6. France produces 75% from nuclear reactors and slated to go up with the rising oil prices. US is now getting private sector to put up nuclear plants. Uranium to power these plants are mainly from Australia & Canada.

We are running smack into an energy crunch, but our politicians are more concerned about getting elected by playing to the gallery, mainly of innocent poor people.

Those opposed to the deal owe a duty to all to put up clear ideas how we are going to meet our future needs. Let us not become another Africa, as it is called a dark continent due its man made problems.

Why the likes of Mr Kakodkar is forgetting one thing in energy issue.

Everything is producing heat. We have abundant heat energy in evrey good solar power through out the year. why not tap it. There will not be any transportation cost, theft etc.

Why not we develop & mass produce solar panels which wouild be cheaper that can used for general purpose needs.

Combine all the rivers of Inda, so navigation and energy requirement for the same is cheap.

Similarly develop ocean (wave)energy, wind energy etc

Why not live peacefully without fight and make the politicians jobless.

Why the world is harping on an energy which is depletable - oil & Dangerous bye products - nuclear.

Hi Ramkumar,

Solar energy is in its infancy. The renewable energy can produce at most 20% of global needs by 2050. Now it is 5%. Things will change on a breakthrough invention. Many countries and leading comapanies like Mitsubishi are trying.

For the forseable future, the world has to depend on fossil fuels. Nuclear energy is another option. Even if we do not proceed, others like China are already going full steam. Other countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangla Desh are also going ahead.

We will be facing darkness at noon, if we are not practical and do nothing to secure our needs.

Finally, the leftists who oppose these can suggest a way out and why not implement their ideas as they are still in the govt. I will be the first to bow my head to them.

Regarding linking of rivers, it is NATO (no action, talk only). I remember thirty years ago, a big headline in the papers - Dhar/Rao Talks to urgently link Ganga, Kaveri. The talks are still going on, off and on. Both DP Dhar & KL Rao are long gone.

The commies get hefty payments from china, to stop India from developing. If any industry sprouts up, they'll form trade unions and destroy the industry before forming. Are there ANY trade unions in China? Slavery still exists in all Manufacturing plants in China. Commies (with help from China) will take us back to the 17th Century.

Their theories are for losers only. The states ruled by them became bankrupt of industries. One after the other the companies closed, even govt owned in Kerala. The people just left to keep body and soul together, leaving their families and some became strangers in their own homes later. A frail old foreign woman brought Kolkata to international attention for the work that our heros hardly bothered. Keralites worked in inhuman conditions in Middle East and even faced the wrath of Bal Saheb in their own country.

China's communism is based on reward for hard work that transformed their country. Ours is based on opposing without offering any solution. In opposition or better still, oppose from within, without any accountability. They return to the poor electorates every few years having brought down the govt, their only achievement.

It is a good life for them, but not for others!

Hi Reddy,

I am presently working overseas. I am a chartered accountant, who tried to make a living in India years back, but left reluctantly to make a living overseas.
I worked in Kerala and as you might have guessed that govt company is closed by union action for many years. It is one of almost all.

Believe it ot not, 90% of all the senior managers' time was spent on putting out the fire, ie attending to labour actions on the flimsiest of grounds. They even went to the extent of trying to finish off the MD and yours faithfully was in the car. Though not a target, I escaped with injuries. I was later taunted in the court by total strangers when the case was called up. Though nobody died, it would not have matterd anyway.

I have watched from close quarters how our leftists work. They are no different from others, as I remember one leader twisted the arm of MD to get his brother a job.

I cannot understand how we are going to solve our energy problems while the Chinese communists are so practical to host Olympics, year end Tennis Masters etc. They have the full range of American capitalist icons even in Tianamen Square and in the heart of Beijing.

We deserve much better.
