NEXT COLLAPSE WILL BE THE BEGUMPET FLYOVER!
by Kabeer on Sep 10, 2007 12:45 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I was horrified of late at the vibrations the Begumpet flyover produced even when no heavy vehicle running over it! Am afraid of its structural strength!

Worse, flyovers are built to ease traffict at the perpendicular X crossings. But all the flyovers were built on the Begumpet-Secbad road where no major X crossings present. It's a waste of public money because it just wasted the road space below with the occupation of the pillars and those stupid greenery watered even in summer when no drinking water is available to the citizens! In Hyderabad not long ago water supply was only for 6 months in a year (alternate day supply!)But they have water to waste on these plants at kilometre long dividers! In Hyderabad summer, the water poured just gets evaporated in minutes! Its citizens do not have water to drink but Naidu wants to impress foreigners with greenery on dividers! It just elevated the below road space to above. Even those flyovers are so narrow and only God knows whether one can expand in future if the need arises!

There is a dire need for flyovers at Ameerpet, Punjagutta Jns where traffic nightmares are heavy but there are no flyovers there!

BLAME IT ON NAIDU's STUPIDITY TO BUILD THESE AND I DON'T KNOW WHO MADE MONEY ON ALL THESE VENTURES!

Kabeer, last sentence rather unnecessary than unwarranted...my son 10 years can say where the money went, whose idea was it build flyovers and why.

dude flyovers are must yaar...its basic purpose is to avoid traffic and it does.

Yeah even I observed they were not fully utilised but fairly required yaar for the future (if at all they withstand)

By the way the water used for plants under the flyover is from Tank BUND.....

True! Flyovers are a necessity of a modern urban townplanning-but build them where they are necessary and even spend twice the amount that you spent. At the time of the first flyovers on Begumpet-Secbad there were no traffic jams except a couple of signals. Now what are they doing? Widening the roads there as it flyovers didn't really help. Had they done it at the first place they could have saved the money and use it elsewhere. Even at that time there were huge traffic jams at Ameerpet Jn,Punjagutta Jn, Greenlands Jn and elsewhere. Flyovers should have been built over there first! I know why they were not built there-it means at that time relocating some shops which the Administration didn't want to antagonise. Begumper-Secbad was easy but a waste of money.

Regarding water, you need basic water to process to make it potable. Even Manjira water needs processing. There is no dearth of processing facilities but lack of basic water in H2O form. In spacecrafts urine of astronauts is reprocessed and made potable for astronauts. Even tank bund water can be processed to make it potable instead of wasting it there where it gets evaporated just in a couple of minutes at 42 celsius.
