Arun, don't get upset. The ad shows the Indians' feelings about Sonia.

I salute the person or the organization who put that ad in New York Times. It is what a lot of Indians think, whether,Arun Gandhi like it or not.Sonia is not the person to represent India or Mahatma Gandhi in UN.Even Manmohan Singh could have been a better choice looking at his past history in politics, but certainly NOT Sonia, who stands for cementing of the Hindu-Muslim division,anti-Hindu stands,Nepotism, creating and maintaining a power center in a 'democracy',taking special previleges for self and family members, what all Mahatma Gandhi never did.So even when Arun Gandhi says she is an elected leader,he has to see the real thing. We have elected goons, killers and dacoits as our representatives in the past,so electing one is not a criterion to the glory of a person.Arun's lamentation "Who among us is so straightforward as to be able to speak on or about Sonia?" is nothing but a show.Yes,there are scores of us in India who go by the law and do things ethically and morally who can question this Gandhi lady.

I reject the ad but since we live in a democracy - both India and USA, I uphold the right of freedom of speech and hence it's just their way to get their message out. Besides, controversies are always good in a democracy. They generate publicity.

Just remember, there are some sangh parivar supporters who do not like Sonia Gandhi. There are others who like her. As for the people of India, especially those of Sonia Gandhi's constituency, they have elected Sonia Gandhi and have put their trust in her.

BJP has nothing on Sonia except for her foreign origin.

Hmm.. Sangh parivar and the minority did not elect her. Their only way to get back to power is to say she is not Indian. She is Indian not by the dress she wears, not by religion, not by caste, upbringing, or any other but by volition. She had the choice and she made hers. Now, I dont know what else she has to do to be an Indian.... perhaps jump on the funeral fire..? If she was%u2019nt half the Indian she is, she would have left India and gone back to Italy with whatever she had, to live peacefully and without having to face this kind of insult.

She was elected repeatedly to serve. She was elected to be the head of the largest party in the elected mandate. She can rightly be speaking for every one of us at the UN. If you think she should not be speaking for you, please vote her out "and her close friend Quatrochi."

This is just the spineless Indian way of criticizing someone. If you think you can serve India better since you were born in India, why dont you get elected and go through this kind of crap? I think that when she spoke at the UN, she spoke very well. So, I dont understand this fuss about her for talking of
"Gandhian values".

The sangh parivars of India need to get elected to speak on behalf of India. Until then, they can oppose as a minority but they dont reflect the majority.

Since you apparently live in the US,do you realize that Sonia could never get to be president here because she was not born in the US?

Why should any person be denied that right? If a person is elected to power, he/she should be eligible to the highest post in the country. Anything else is discriminatory and non-inclusive.

Thankfully, India does not discriminate against Indian citizens, muslims, hindus, christians, sikhs, non-Indian born citizens etc.

Since no non-Indian born citizen comes to power if he/she does not prove to be an active campaigner for the people of the region, this rule is binding us all to elect and vote responsibly. Rest assured, this much is true today. We have elected them and they have a right.

Whether the US has it or not is none of my goddamn concern.

in a democracy there will be some rules.Arnold Schwarznegger can never be the President of USA,even when he is the Governor of california. He wasn't born in USA.Since India is all set to cosy up with usa,we should also follow that rule.MP alright,PM-no.

You can always keep following someone else. Please dont ask the same for India.

There is no sense in following someone blindly. Please take a look at your comments and reanalyze. I am not trying to win an argument here. I am just hoping that Indians all over drop this prejudice and try to see some light, be liberal and be inclusive.
