How Lame!

The nuclear option is hardly the silver bullet to our power problems. Don't even get started on the credibility of the nuclear "deterrent". Pure bull! If we nuke Lahore, do you think our people in Amritsar will get a front seat ticket (and no harm from the radioactive fallout??)? Naive!!

The media and the government have blacked out all good research relating to the value of the nuclear option, replacing it with the proverbial high-fives and chest-thumping.

To really understand why this nuclear deal is pure political drama (and much less tangible in terms of benefits for the nation), refer to the information found here, written by an excellent Indian scientist working for an Indian think-tank in Bangalore (just in case you think he's on payroll of the US).

Nuclear option is indeed full of safety issues.

Recent earth quake in Japan and consequent damage to nuclear power plant is another warning bell.

But remember that Oil exploration from land to sea ( ofshore ) is also full of safety issues.

Russia has no expertise in this are. But western countries made tremendous progress an ultimately we are into deeper sea and real hostile weather conditions.

One accident in Nort sea oil platform has seen more liives lost than all Nuclear reactor accidents so far.

Going by your logic and the scientist quoted by you, we should stop flying, we should stop walking on Roads ( Indian roads hardly have pavements)
Remember risk taking and doing what no one has done before is part of your struggle for existence.

Indeed long way to go.. We do not wanna be dependant on Urianium... An element which was sold just for 10 bucks is now being sold in 100 bucks (dollars)... And projections are that it might be sold in 1000 (i need to find the unit of measurement)...
