Freedom comes with responsibility
by Azhar on Dec 21, 2007 03:29 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I agree that every one has freedom of expression. but that freedom should be used to unite people not divide. If she continues this way she would also have to flee just as MF Hussain did. There is no place for extremists in India

Azhar,
Get used to the 21st century...No more immunity for religions....if there have been movies like Last Temptation of Christ, then people should be able to express their point of view on religious personality of any denomination. Unless we discuss and talk about them then we are doomed to a groove where we have to accept whatever is told to us...eg Galileo doomed to Church teachings that the Sun goes around the earth. If Islam is so flimsy that it can be brought down by cartoons and books then it has a lot to hide. We want to know what it is hiding. Na?

deepak, there is nothing to hide. lets talk. islam is always open to any kind of talk. there is no objection to it. but atleast be courteous. if there is something that you do not want to accept then you have the right not to accept but YOU DONOT have the right to spread lies. that is what she did.

Taslima Nasreen is not an extremist. Her book contains criticism of the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh and criticism of Sharia law. Her writings are similar to articles and books that criticise Manusmriti and Hindu religious texts. Such articles and books number in the thousands.
Criticism of religious texts should be completely acceptable in a democracy.

Damn all these religions! Shame on humanity..do we need a religion for survival or introduction?

First we shld learn to love fellow mates and live in happiness..

If religion complicates this by creating barriers, renounce it..

If responsibility is the key word then Quran should be censored first as it contains a lot of invective against idolators [Hindu like people]. So stop lecturing on uniting the people. Religious books divides the humanity. That is truth.

I am ready to accept what you say. My only condition: "Be Just". If you really think Islam is no good then I would need to ask you the grounds on which u make this statement. Islam is not what Jehadis do by killing innocent people nor is it what some ignorant mullahs preach, thanks to the media. If media is really bothered why doesn't it ask what Islam is to some responsible leaders like Muslim personal law board or educated scholars. They go to mullahs who are love camera and speak with half baked knowledge. Islam aint their property to speak whatever they want. You got to read Quran and try to understand it without prejudice. dont just get fooled by the quotes from the Quran that people paste here. they are either quoted out of context or manipulated to suit the authors point. If you believe them you are just doing the same mistake what some illiterate muslims are doing by listening to mullahs with half baked knowledge or they read the Quranic Ayats(verses) out of context.
If they misunderstand Quran and do some thing which dangers humanity then it is the person who is at fault not islam. If some one is given with a powerful bike and he doesnt know how to drive it then it is his fault not the manufacturer's.

Azhar..how can anyone tell you about the grounds if you threaten people with beheading for expressing?? Nothing that Taslima has said in her books is Made up by her...she discusses the book Maqsadal Mumineen a book on Islamic dos and donts..now all she did was tell us what Mullahs go about telling ordinary people...eg wife beating etc..she discusses chapter and verse..then how is it shes threatened for somethign that is already in print?? dont u see that she is being threatened for saying something that she feels is wrong?? in other words fundies are forcing her their point of view with which she differs..Now that is ok in Saudi Arabia and other fascist Islamic countries but for India or the west? it is not.

You are right about people of Quraish worshipping idols. but never did Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). He lead a very noble and peaceful life till the age of 40. He was known as "Sadiq"(truthful). Then came the revelation from Allah and Allah made him the prophet. He didnt become all by himself. He preached whatever Allah reaveled to him(that is what is Quran. It is a compilation of all the Verses that were revealed to Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) by Allah. It is not a book that popped up from no where). He persuaded people of arab to worship one God(Allah). He was beaten, abused, taunted and tortured for 23 years. but never did he utter a word against them. he just kept persuading them with peace, love and logic and of course the Quran. That is when the Islamic Revolution came into this world.

And Kaba was built by Prophet Ibrahim(pbuh) centuries before Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh). It was the center of muslim world but people forgot Allah and indulged in worshipping the creation instead of creator. so Allah selected Prophet Mohammad(pubh) as his messenger and people reverted to Islam and Kaba was restored. This IS a fact. i donot think it is anyone will oppose when some day pakistan will return kashmir to india. becuase it was orignally indian state! same way Something that belonged to muslims was given back to muslims!

Azhar you are defying simple history with an Islamic dogma..the world has been going on for thousands of years before Islam was born..people worshipped God in their own way in all civilizations.there were no prophets in ancient Egypt, Greece, Mayas, Incas, China etc that came with any books from heaven..the prophet theory is purely Middle eastern..and Mohammad did destroy the temples of Kaba..there is no history of people forgetting Allah or anyone. Your contention that Allah sent books that were forgotten means Allah wrote poor books that were not effective..you are saying Allah took many attempts before he perfected Quran and Islam. As we can see it has not been effective even now, or else we would not have people beheading people for God.
