Navi Mumbai rape incident is a true reflection of sexual perversion in urban India. Even this Rediff article made it a point to close the article by reporting that the victim was found in an "inebriated state roaming around alone".
I guess in this day and age a female should not roam around alone. What kind of environment is this where roaming around alone becomes a questionable act.
We're all familiar how Indian society has incorporated a twist of "Gandhi's three monkeys" philosophy.
When bad happens - see and listen but don't speak When bad is reported - see and speak but don't listen When we do bad - we don't see, don't speak, and don't listen
I see this incident as a testimony of the demise of the Indian social moral system. Our society is built more on fear of doing wrong rather than a sense that guides us to keep away from wrong doing.
Finally, I'm sure other readers will agree that this incident will get substantive foreign press that can only discourage non-ethnic Indians from visiting the economically and socially rejuvinated India.
As for nationalists, regionalists, communalists, please don't bother to post replies. Your sentiments are well shared and there is no more need to make your point.

"Indian social moral system" there is no such thing. In India we have sexual repression. Unless teenagers are allowed to interact with opposite sex in a healthy way, have boy/girl friends, be able to have physical contact with each other, they have a chance to grow up to be sexual deviants who will rape whenever they get a chance. I haven't seen a society where attitude towards sex is healthy. In west we have sexual obsession and lots of freedom also resulting in lots of rapes. Best way is to punish such crimes with impunity.
