In 2002, 360 Gwe (Giga Watt Electrical) produced from nuclear energy in this world. It is 16 % of total production.
Spent uranium must be guarded for about 15000 years. Plutonium for 75000 - 100,000 years.
Every year the world%u2019s 442 nuclear power plants produce 12000 tones of radioactive waste. UK has 90 tones of plutonium waste. Disposing this costs about US $ 93 billion.
Cost of nuclear plant is 3 times of fossil fuel plants.
Completion takes 12 to 15 years blocking return on the capital investment.in fact, from blue print to electricity production stage it will take 25-30 years.
Rs 10,00,000 crores are spent on nuclear power infrastructure by Indian govt. the return is 3% electricity and massive waste of resource.
Capital cost at price level of 1997-98 nuclear plants would cost Rs 5.23 crores/MW and Rs 3.75 Crores/MW for thermal plants.

Hey on, I don't know where you got that stupid number of 1 lac cr. spent on our nuclear plants. Since you like doing numbers, why don't you dig up the cost of hydel plants and fossil fuel plants in terms of environmental costs etc.? Soon we should be able to take care of nuclear waste by throwing it off into space, simple! Space rockets are cheap now..

sorry for sending the mail mutiple time. it was a mistake.
The cost of uranium mining, refining, enriching all produces lot of wastes and uses fossil fuel.
Can think about the fossil fuels burned in traffic jams and signals. Also remember that the engines, which are used in our vehicles, are less that 20% efficient. That is 80% of the energy is getting wasted. If we have good electric vehicles, which works at 80% efficiency we can save a lot of fossil fuel.
My question is why we have to spent our money to Americans to get this costliest electricity? I think they want their money back from us, which we got from IT and ITES outsourcing.
