Why do they attack brahmins?
by Vijaya Kumar on Dec 08, 2006 10:46 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

In the whole population of India Brahmins are a minority-they lived poor historically-they never had reservations as one of learned writers is mentioning. Brahmins are the ones who kept the history-there is no Brahmin God figure we pray to. I condemn any discrimination with heart and soul. The demand of the Dalits (who want to say and be called Dalits for ever because of privileges they enjoy) is not just give them all the privileges that no community ever had any time in human history, but they want others constantly punished and reduced to cinders. Once I heard Jaggivan Ram saying "I want to see Brahmins pulling Rikshwas"-For me I do not want any one pulling Rikhwas. Do they want vengence and destruction or will they ever use their up-lifting for 5 generations till now for the up-lifting of whole of India? They burnt Deccan queen because some Brahmins traveled in it-what kind of nonsense its that? Let blacks burn busses because whites traveled in USA-they will never see light again. Blacks do not have reservations in USA for your information. Purpose of attempts to uplift is for them to become the teachers and honorable citizens-what honor is there in burning and hating?

Reservations are legislative (not judicial or society) response to historical social evils to certain sections of the society.
Government should scrap reservations when 85% of marriages in India are inter-caste or inter-religious.

TN is the only state that given / giving equal status to Dalits. Father and Mother of Reservation was TAMIL NADU. We love our Dalit brothers as we do others.

Dear Sir,
Ur allegation that Dalits want to be known as Dalits to enjoy privileges, if taken to be true will apply to a very small portion of the entire population of Dalits in India. It is probably true that some members of the scheduled castes get reservations even if they dont need it. By that i mean that they have enough economical and environmental opurtunities to not need reservations. But that highlights the plight of the rest even more so,who are still living in penury and under exploitation. They are being denied reservations which they need by the \'creamy layer\' within them which dont. Majority of the Dalits live in rural India where they are mostly landless labourers.Do you not believe reports like the Khairlanji killings? They have been historically exploited against and are still subjected to terrible cruelty.True, ideally Brahmins were supposed to believe in simple living, hence your reference to their poor living. But in India social dignity has never been related to economic conditions.Poor or not,Brahmins have always enjoyed respect while they have propagated discrimination.By Brahmins i certainly dont mean individuals i mean the community in general. So of course i dont support that they shd be made to pull rikshas.Similarly if some dalits choose to show their indignation by burning,u cant denounce all of them. And lastly pls dont fool urself,no Brahmin lives in voluntary poverty today, none of their ancient ideals remain, while cruelty to dalits does.
