"Vande Matram" means I "worship" my mother. The problem is with the word "Vandana" or "worship". The basic concept of worship in Islam is dedicated to the Almighty and only Almighty. Coz if a persons worships anybody other than the Almighty, he or she ceases to be a muslim. Refraining from chanting VM does not mean I do not love my country. I love my country as much as I love my mother, but I do not "worship" my mother, and I will refrain from saying that too!! Does not at all mean that the deserved reverence to my mother or my country is going less by any means!!
Does somebody know a Japanese Muslim? Interested to know how he would greet a teacher or colleague or his parents.
I just cannot believe that no Muslim ever learnt Karate (There must be thousands of black belts). If a Karate student does not bow before his master, think of the consequences.... anterior and posterior included!
Bowing is good. It is an excercise. It adds to the flexibility of your body. You wont hit your forehead against a door frame.
As a matter of fact, the people who had to bow the most were the people from the desert region, where Islam has its origin. They had to bow their heads against the high sandy winds, yes before a natural force, to protect themselves from eyesfull of sand. Did it mean any disrespect Allah? (Sure, dont say that they all wore sunglasses!!).
Periods change, occasions change, nationality..blood...what you eat & drink..how you talk..how you dress..how you lust (ask Osama!) everything changed. Change with the winds of time

Hi Joseph, I agree that bowing is good! In fact we do bow! and we muslims bow more than anybody else, FYI. To quantify, it is anywhere between 17 to 30 times a day, without fail, and that too at least for a minute each time.By the way,we prostarte too the same number of times each day. Still wondering? Yes that is when we pray! where it is required the most. Things are cystal clear in Islam! And by the way, a japanese when greets anybody or when a person greets in karate, he does not intend to "worship" the other, for sure!
Things do change,Joseph but the oxygen content in atmosphere is till 21%, 2 + 2 still make four and the Sun is exactly at the same distance from our earth and these things will remian so till the end of the times!!

Dear Shankar/Indian,
Your outbursts against Sameer's posting are mean and ridiculous. All religions have theirown short comings and drawbacks. Since religion is man made, same is the case with Gods too!
Being educated people, do any one of you (incl Sameer) think that there can be many gods (or any god?). Now consider that there is a god. Can different people can reasonably have different gods? If it is so, there are big fights going on in heavens (or in hell, as some gods must be there by now). There is then no harm their followers fighting and killing each other.
Accept that god exists. It is only natural that people of different culture, language & demographic background have different images of the god (Now this image is not a physical one, Sameer!). West Asian Gods cannot be like Indian Gods just because of the fact that the people are different. So a better way would be to see your own god through the native gods. Like chanting Hare Krishna Hare Rama Rama, I can offer obescience to Jesus or Jehova or Allah.
Best thing is just do not have any gods. If you have one, do not fight and finish each other. Once humanity is gone, so would be gods.
