I am a fan of sania mirza from hyderabad. My name is Atif Mirza and I am from Hyderabad too.
I strongly disagree with the author of this article. The author says "ong skirts are an impediment for girls playing tennis" thats definitely true however Sania Mirza or any other tennis playing girl can hide their modesty but wearing a scientifically designed suit in which it would be much more easier for the girls in their movement on the tennis court. I guess the author is ignorent of the fact that even in swimming there is a scientifically designed suit by which girls can hide their modesty as per islam. So muslim girls if they want they can definitely play tennis but with required suitable clothing which doesnt reveal their modesty.
We r living in 21st century and if one wants can adapt to any kind of situation, in this case one can easily design a good dress suitable for muslim girls for playing tennis.
All in all the fact remains that its not acceptable in islam to run about on court in short skirts.
Even Sania Mirza has agreed that wearing short skirts is not allowed in Islam and she says its a wrong thing.

Hi All,
What a person should wear is entirely his/her personal choice.Religion should be a person's personal matter and should not be imposed on anybody.
Yes Rafael Nadal does wear shorts below his knees, but he's always has been comfortable in them.Majority of the Men wear shorts that reach above the knees.
As regards to Sania,in women's tennis there's not a single player who wears a "below knee" attire. That's the norm in Ladies tennis and Sania was following the norm.
When Sania plays she represents India ,not Islam. That's the reason why so many of us support her.
Every body knows that the Fatwa was wrong. But some educated muslims knowing fully well it was wrong, try to justify the issue because they find opposing it an unislamic thing to do.
All I can say is that it's high time educated muslims take a hard look at themselves and see if they are doing enough to improve their community. They should also realise why such issues happen only with muslims

Atif the sad thing is that not one person has given a scientific basis for Sania not wearing a skirt, so please do not speak of science when you are talking of impelementing a dogma that is more social and communal in nature.
Also the scientific swim suit you speak of may cover the body but is a lot more revealing than anything that Sania wears, it is body hugging and leaves NOTHING to the imagination. Sania's dress is a LOT more modest. AND the WTA did not allow a woman who wore a body suit to play in the US open ( some 5 -6 years ago). So the women's dress in tennis is regulated ( and fortunately not by moulvis )
