UPA Govt. has done a good thing by passing this legislation to reserve seats for the communities running behind in education.
The whole of India needs to move forward and this cannot happen if the large percentage of the Indian population is not allowed access to good quality education.
We in India want to erect apartheid to keep the whole of India backward.
Mr. Kak , you are terribly wrong and you lack in vision of India that needs to march forward. This cannot happen if you are going to be negative in your understanding of Indian needs.
UPA has done the right thing and we must all aplaud it.
Just read the history of Korea what it has achieved by being forward thinking in education. It is due to liberal approach that Korea is so far ahead of us while in 1947 it was on par with us in education.Korea invested heavily in education and it has been the best decision.
We should urge the UPA or whatever Govt. we have to invest far more in education.Looking at the vast openings for our people in Spainish, Portugese, Francophone, German, Russian,Japanese and Chinese areas we should encourage learning of these languages in a very escalated manner.

I agree that reservations are good, but not in Private Institutions. First and most improtant reason is that the efficiency and quality of education that a Private Eductaion Institution is able to give, will degrade. Look at Goverment Run institution. The quality of education is really poor. Many of them do not even have sufficient number of teachers. Need is to improve the infrastructure of Goverment aided schools, and not to impede the growth or quality of Private Education Institution (speacilly Unaided). One more important thing you are missing is reservations are done totally on political basis. Is there any logic to give reservations to so called minority section if they already are getting reservation in aided institutions. Also by giving reservations to a small section of soceity on basis of caste you are depriving the majority section (who may be economically backward) from their share of education. Time has arrived that the reservations now should be made only on basis of economic status and not on caste or creed. And such reservations then should be in all kinds of institutions, be it in minority run intitutions or majority run institutions.

u r absolutily right abt korea but u failed to mention that korea dont have any reservation either in educational institute or in jobs.if u r mentioning abt education just by giving reservation in IIT's and IIM's is not going to help out OBC,SC,ST.but they have to come up by doing more hard work to compete in market.but i m feeling very sorry to say they r lagging behind in this.every year lots of seats go vacent bcoz they r not getting enough students from SC,ST even after reservation.and not only that once they get addimission also, they could not able to clear papers bcoz there is no reservation in that and u have to work hard to clear ur papers.i can tell u bcoz i was in IIT from 1992-1998.i did my B.Tech(1996) and M.Tech(1998).and i have seen lots of boyes not able to come up there bcoz there mind is not upto that standard.what i wish to tell u is that first u give them good and free education atleast upto 12std.and after that if required then reservation but not more then another 10 years.after that it should be equall opportunity for all. i hope it will help u out in ur views abt reservation.
