RE:Reservation for communities lagging behind in education
by sachin on Jan 04, 2006 10:22 AM

I agree that reservations are good, but not in Private Institutions. First and most improtant reason is that the efficiency and quality of education that a Private Eductaion Institution is able to give, will degrade. Look at Goverment Run institution. The quality of education is really poor. Many of them do not even have sufficient number of teachers. Need is to improve the infrastructure of Goverment aided schools, and not to impede the growth or quality of Private Education Institution (speacilly Unaided). One more important thing you are missing is reservations are done totally on political basis. Is there any logic to give reservations to so called minority section if they already are getting reservation in aided institutions. Also by giving reservations to a small section of soceity on basis of caste you are depriving the majority section (who may be economically backward) from their share of education. Time has arrived that the reservations now should be made only on basis of economic status and not on caste or creed. And such reservations then should be in all kinds of institutions, be it in minority run intitutions or majority run institutions.
