Not a pilot's dream.
by Dr. V. M. Gaikwad on May 25, 2008 03:23 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

If you ask any pilot who actually loves to fly (I don't mean the pilots who like inflated egos).. they would rather fly the boeings.. Airbus are machines that are flown by computers most of the time and pilots are there just to troubleshoot incase something goes wrong.

In '70s there was maneuvering involved in flying aircraft. But today pilots are nothing but glorified bus driver. Pilots get high Salary mainly because of artificially created supply constraints. Now a days flying, landing done by machines and guiding systems.

Bus driving is much more difficult.

Glorified bus drivers? Who told you that the qualification is 10th pass??Its 12th PCM and the exam conducted by DGCA for giving license will make you shit in your pants.. (I am a mechanical engineer and can attest that DGCA is 10 times tougher than any engineering exam) Try getting the least that is private pilot license and you will realize what a pilot's job is all about. It is easy for you to sit there in front of your computer and call pilots drivers? When you have emergency situation in face it takes a well trained and brave pilot to take things in his stride. Remember the aircrafts are machines and anything can go wrong when they are operating at above 30000ft. Have little respect for other professions and if you do not know about it then don't say anything. Anyways we don't need your patronizing, the pleasure of flying is a reward (not to mention the salaries)

Dude, Pilots get high salaries, not because of the short supply, but because of the risk and SKILL involved. Skill to keep the aircraft flying in absense 'GUIDING SYSTEMS'. If a doctor makes the mistake, only the patient suffers, but if the pilot makes a mistake, 400 people along with him die... One needs to realise that Pilots job is very demanding and NOT TO BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED! And ask yourself a question... Would you fly in a plane which did not have a pilot in the front seat, and was flown by automation?
