I don't disagree with the author completely, but I do feel that there is something missing. It is very easy to make thing us vs them. Perhaps things are more than that.
I am not sure about Daniel Esty, but as Friedman writes, "cheap copy of our worst habits". I won't disagree with that either. Here one has to highlight "Habits". That means going just half a kilometer galla-shop in car. I hope it won't effect India so huge, given the oil prices.
I agree with some wrote somewhere else, something like, Tata can't be blamed, they have created a beautiful car. If any one has to be blamed for environment then it is govt, who failed to proved good public transport.

You cant blame India saying it has worst good public transport facility. Have you been to other countries where there are no public transport at all? The only problem is more percentage of people are dependant on Public transport system in India than in other developed countries. If you dont have a car over there, then it is tough to lead a life. So Govt is doing their best. And i believe Indian Public transport facility is the best when compared to other countries. any comments?

very wise and practical. I am here in uae and can say that public transport doesnt exist here... India is great..
