This shows the colonial mentality of Indians. We lack the respect we owe to our culture.Every body were up in the arms when the government wanted to change the name from 'Bangalore' to 'Bengaluru' saying that it hurts the cosmopolitan image of the city. Finally, it took an international company from Zurich to make our fellow Indians realize that we should be proud of 'Bengaluru'. Amazing, even journalists now are reporting using the term 'Bengaluru' for Bangalore. Wake up fellows, do not wait for another East India company to teach us what to do!

@ Ashwin This is to remind you that colonialisation has also brought many developments in India. There are so many fields in which we follow the British even today. As a simple example u can take construction field. there are inumerable bridges across India which was built by british. We use it even today and they are still stronger than any of these modern day bridges built yesterday. So as a part of revolt against colonial mentality, should we destroy those bridges?

why do u confuse material objects with non material ones/ names were corrupted by the british as they found it hard to pronounce them, what isa wrong in renaming them, sorry, reclaiming them from thier original roots?

No technical difference! The point I am making is that those people now reporting as 'Bengaluru' are the same who vociferously opposed the proposed name change, totally disregarding the feeling (again, cultural)of the local population. Thanks to the Zurich consortium -they showed the way to respect the local sentiments going ahead with 'Bengaluru' even before it gets unin govt nod. If we had imbibed these senses ourselves, today there would be no Raj Thackarey or for that matter any caste , religiion and linguistic based parties like MNS, BSP, LJP, RJD,etc - which by the way have no plan for making India a great power

Rahul,
Bengaluru is how Bangalore is pronounced in Kannada, the language apoken in Karnataka. The origin of the word Bangalore (Anglicised version of Bengaluru) is something rooted in history...it is derived from the name Bendakaaluru or the town of boiled beans. However there are other stories as well regarding how the name evolved.A google search will throw more light on that.
