New Bengalooru Airport
by Anand YNI on Feb 25, 2008 10:58 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

This post of mine may sound a bit too (or three) late but I would like to put forth my views.

It is a known fact that the majority of politicians led by the great HDD & family had stake in the location or nearby and hence the airport bordering Andhra Pradesh (a la Electronic City bordering Tamil Nadu) that too at a distance of 35 km was thrust on the people of Karnataka at an enormous cost. Those who do not own cars or chauffers will be paying through their nose.

Would someone kindly clear my following doubt?

Why did the leaders not plan a airport near Ramnagaram or Bidadi or Kanakapura where plenty of land was available? Had they build an airport near any of these locations, it would have been easily accessible to most of the people right from Mysore also, which is a second rung IT city. In addition, there would have been phenominal growth of this belt. Alas! Now all that is history.

I would be thankful if someone tells me if I am right in my thinking; then would anyone tell me as to why the powers to be have played with public money and comfort? On the contrary, if I am wrong in my thinking, please give your views & put me on the right path.

Thanks,

Where in, In and Around Bangalore they(HDD and the tree) don't have a land. They have everywhere. Even if the airport was set up in Kanakpura or Ramnagara belt they would have benefited. There was also a news that they are actually trying to get the airport set up in Ramnagara belt. Your thought is good that it would have been much better for the people of mysore also if the airport were to be set up in ramnagara belt. I don't know the precise reason why it was planned there. In fact there are many excuses for it being set up there. But at the end of the day, common man's question remains unanswered and the memory in rediff's server keeps wasting because of these unanswered questions.

Can't your people live without blaming tamils for all your woes?. Where the heck is TN and new international airport. I think new airport is 70 km from Hosur. get your facts right. Don't be like your politicians

Hi b y,

Thanks for the remarks.

Pl do not mistake. I never blamed Tamilians in my comment. I just mentioned "a la" meaning, "Just like". Please do not forget that Hosur would not have been what it is today but for the electronic city. I only thought that had they set up this IT industry between Bangalore and Mysore, the whole belt would have developed without much effort from the government. Similarly, had the airport been set up near Bidadi, the whole belt would have developed. True, they have contributed towards the development of the nation. (and of course, their own pockets). But, where is the reciprocation from others towards Karnataka?

I don't understand your point buddy! In fact Bengaluru itself is quite close to borders of the current-day AP and TN. The population distribution might have been more or less the same when Kempegowda laid the foundations of this city. Can you blame him for building the city "closer to peoples who speak other toungues"? Or can you blame the political leaders of yesterday for making Bengaluru the capital of Karnataka in spite of it being "close to neighbouring states"? Doesn't make much sense unless you have vested interests around Ramanagaram or Bidadi or Kanakapura.
