It is going to be cheap like cell phone calls ..

Cell phone bills are outrageous in USA and Europe. India has the best call rates and best value for money when it comes to cell phone calls.

I hope the same thing get repeated in the wireless broadband technology (either 3G or WiMAX).

I listened to Airtel CEO (Sunil Mittal)'s talk. He repeatedly mentioned that he would make the cost dirt cheap and make money on volume (i.e. in more customer usage).

Options in USA are real bad. Using CDMA, here they tie your cell phone with a carrier. So it is of course restrictive.

but In India as most of the operators are GSM based and use SIM card, hand set and cell service is plenty. Indian customers are the big winners.

I don't think it has anything to do with GSM/CDMA . The two major service providers in USA has a GSM (At&T & Tmobile) network and they also have most of the plan as contract based by which you will be tied with the provider for 1-2 years. They also use SIM card and its just the your mobile is locked to that particular SIM. In many cases after few months of use the service provider can give you an unlock code using which you can use any SIM. However, you will be still in the contract with them and has to pay the monthly fee to them irrespective of what SIM you put in the mobile.

yes the system is USA is real bad.. It favours the carrier. If the carrier is bad, you have to be content with them till the contract expires (usually 2 years) or pay 200$ (normally)..
India system is far far better ..If you feel like the current operator service is bad, you can easily switch to another operator (wo any strings attached).
