They will have to do better on the pricing. the 16GB model is available now in India at Rs 28000 in the grey market and is USD 500 (rs 20000) in the USA.

But if your "unlocked" phone in India has GPRS enabled, it would get automatically when you connect GPRS. It would cost you Rs.3000/- to unlock the phone again!!

Nonsense! Who told you that?! I have had an unlocked iPhone since September which I have used with GPRS enabled both in India as well as in the United States. It is still working fine.
The only way to get it locked again is to upgrade it when a new firmware is shipped out through iTunes. If you say "No" when iTunes asks you if you want to upgrade your firmware, everything works fine.
