can pension be scrapped?
by Natesh on May 24, 2007 10:14 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I think its high time pension is scrapped for all govt employees whether state or central. Its being a huge burden for the tax payers. For a person who has joined service from 20-25 yrs n retires by 58-60 there is a totaly of 35 approx in service. But if the person lives upto 80 yrs then the govt has to pay pension for another 20 yrs or more. Morover their spouses also get half pension for another 10-15 yrs. This is very unfair for 98% of the population who are employed in private sector. Why should all the benefits goto a very thin minority of the population (2%) where the rest of the country have to work hard/smart and depend on their hard earned savings. Along with pension all other perks and benefits given to govt employees should also be cut like free passes/ subsidized quarters/ hospital bills / 5 yr holiday etc... We want our tax money to be spent on moderning airports, roads, railways, health amenities and basic infrastructure on rural and urban india. Even if money is spent on education it will help poor students to climb the ladder of economic growth. Wish someone starts a "stop pensions" website and i will join to protest

I think a Government Employee earns very less than compared to his private counterparts, it is not that all the Government employees are corrupt, probably a private employees earn 8 to 9 times more than a Government Employee, The pay hike is once in 10 yrs for government employees, government employees increment for one year is around 75 to 100, rupees in some cases, I think the government deserve pension. The government should follow the old system of pension.

My point is very simple vijay. If a PSU is making profit and can afford to pay pension and benefits to its employees then it is welcomed. But when most of the PSU are making huge losses why should their employees enjoy all the benefits and pension from the govt. The government should not pay govt employees from our tax money and it should be better utilized. If corruption has to go then public sectors have to go as well. The younger generation will not tolerate corruption and will pave way for progress.

There is not only PSU among Government Sector,
there are many sectors, The government sector not only consist of production, it is involved in various other ways also, How u expect a research institute to make a profit, there are so many research institute in each and every field and defence institute, there is no way, they can make profit, I think the nation has made great progress in nuclear and space research, all this could not be possible without the government employees, u simply cannot expect all the organisation to make profits, I agree there are many PSU which make huge losses, but what about others, like HAL, BEL, etc., which make not only profits but also make nation proud.

point 1. Have u heard of pension being given pvt cos. these days?

point 2. Govt employees also pay taxes, you are not alone.

point 3. There are around 3000000 central govt employees, forget the state govts. Assuming a family size of 4, 12000000 people are dependents on the govt. Where is your heart?

Point 4. The salary and benefits package in the pvt sector is approximately 2.5 times in junior levels to 15 or greater times at senior positions, as compared to their counterparts in the govt sector. How abt some salaray rationalization and leveling of salaries to govt basic levels. Game?

Point 1. Pension can be given from pvt companies bcoz its not from tax payers money

Point 2. Govt employees pay taxes, never said they dont pay but they get way too many benefits that ordinary citizens do not get. The point is when a PSU is making losses why should govt pay for employees from our tax money?

Point 3. 412000000 is a very small number when you compare 60-70 crores of population or more working in pvt sector. Majority of the govt jobs can be removed bcoz they are not required.

Point 4. Packages are better in pvt then why dont you quit govt jobs. Pple prefer govt jobs for job security, pension, benefits n ofcourse corruption. Is there any accountability for govt employees like we are in pvt? We dont sign the resgiter and spend hours in the canteen(talkn abt vast majority not the few sincere govt employees)

My dear friend, this is because a govt employee earns much less than their pvt counterpart (assuming he isnt corrupt).

he earns less because he do not have the stuff to join in a private company

A govt employee gets less because he works less,

If he is competent and knowledge enough, let him throw out his government job and join in a well-paying private sector.

In fact the best brains join the government in the form of IAS and other class A services. Then the second lot prefers the navratna PSUs it is the third rate scums who just cannot match the competetion end up in sweat shops of the private sector.

Is it really so? Then India would have become a developed country long back.

Please visit other countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, UK etc. and then make such statements.

Our government employees are among the worst in the world in terms of capability. On the contrary, our private sector employees are among the best in the world who have made India an economic powerhouse in a short time.

India would have been a much better country to live if only our government employees were less corrupt and more capable.
