Thanks for sharing Raviji. This sharing of actual experience/s is more effective in convincing people than when instructors like I write about it. As you have noted, yoga's effect is not only on the body but also on the mind because it fully understands this link.

Many many thanks for your reply Madam. Your advise is like a battery charging. I am fully confident that addition of your tips to my present practice will remove my shyness, which is my main weakness also. Moreover, I forgot to mention that my stomach is free from pot belly. But I have one problem, which happend to me since 11 years back. I am having problem of Achlasia Gardia. I am sure that you are fully aware of this desease, which is prevalent among few people. I had done ballooning dilatation thrice but problem re-appeared again. Doctor had advised continous consumption of capsule called Nicardia-5mg twenty minutes prior to breakfast, lunch & dinner. I am managing with that but it had little effect on my problem. Can you please advise how to remove such problem? I am sure that Yoga will help me.

Raviji -- sorry, this is the first time I have heard of this rare disorder achalasia cardia -- i tried to find out about it and learnt that it is non-responsive peristalsis and has a link with vagus nerve degeneration... and can be triggered by emotional stress and cold fluids intake and can cause extreme discomfort, with night-time coughing fits and chest pain. Since I don't know the physiological aspects of this problem apart from what I just learnt it will not be right for me to suggest a yogic programme. But since you say you are also very shy, I am guessing here that vagus nerve degeneration is linked to it (vagus nerve is a large wandering nerve, it is sensitive to emotional cues and affects a large tract within our body based on its high reactivity) and will suggest a yogic programme that will strengthen you emotionally. You also indicated that there are anger management issues. In either case yoga practice will indirectly, but defintely, help. So eventually the physical symptoms of the emotional problems can be dealt with. Please remember that this must complement your conventional, allopathic treatment and not substitute it. So if you already doing yoga, as you have shared with us, focus more on the balancing poses -- apart from the above five, there are several, easier ones that you can learn. If you are attending a class, request your teacher also to prepare a programme/sequence with the focus on balancing poses. Some of the poses I have suggested here are tough an

and may be difficult to hold for longer duration. You may try simpler balancing poses, like navratansana(you will find how to do this in my blog, in the Health Check section. http://jaisivananda.blogspot.com), ekpada pranamasana, ordinary pranamasana (but with eyes shut). Learn to hold these poses longer, particularly the simple ones. This will power you emotionally and physically. Also, include meditations like antar mouna (which is more suitable for shy people -- the tapes are available at the Bihar School of Yoga, Munger, the contact details of which are in my blog site). Short yoga nidra relaxation is a must after every yoga session (these tapes are also available at the ashram I mentioned, or you can check out how to do this on this site www.SwamiJ.com. Time magazine did a full cover story a few years ago quoting tonnes of medical researches from around the world on how regular meditation had a positive healing impact on several difficult ailments. I hope your problem will be sorted out soon. Happy sadhana!
