%u201COh God! I am stressed!, %u201CNo time to look for other work%u201D, %u201CMeeting today is impossible for me%u201D, %u201CWe can meet at the end of the month%u201D, %u201CI will die if I work for 2 hours after office%u201D, and so on%u2026%u2026.

These words are not from any film or play, nut from our very own office colleagues and the over all working class in India.

Have you thought about the impact of the increasing office work on our health and also on out family life? Why do we tend to run after money at the cost of our health and family life? The answer to all these questions lie, probably, in the present structure of our employment and mindset of the working class.

Today, the working class leaves for office at around 8.00am (average). Before leaving it has to complete the household work. So, it wakes up at 5.00am everyday. It the reaches office at 10.00am. It works until 7.30pm everyday. Leaves office for home and reaches by 9.00pm. Now its very much exhausted. Again household work, Dinner and it goes to bed at 11.00pm. I completely agree with you.In my case my day starts at 6 and ends at 12.00(including 4 hrs travel) as I me and my spouse also have to look after the kid when we get back from work.
However "only few bucks of money" is not a correct statement.what else could we do? get a lesser paying and less stressful job? I dont believe there is such a thing now-a-days.and living in a costly city like bombay we need all the money we can make. There is childrens education, parents illness, insurance policies, investments, house, car etc to be planned. These things may look materialistic but the fact is we need them, if not now then in the future.A commonly occurring operation like bye-pass needs at least 3.5L, where do we get that kind of money?
So the basic funda is - either slog in whole life and lead a stressfull but comfortable life, or be relaxed all your life and dont provide adequately for your parents, kids, spouse (I doubt you would be relaxed even in this case!)
I dont think people living in metros have a choice. If you dont do the job then somebody else will.So keep on slogging stressfully ever after
