Tarunji, it is best to avoid any bending motion when the backache is in the healing stage/extreme stage. Even in physiotherapy this is not advised. Check this link for everyday care with backache: http://www.free-beauty-tips.com/backachepre.html How you get up from bed, how many hours you sit continuously (not for too long continuously since this aggravates the pain),how you lift a load, bend to wash your face etc are all crucial part of your treatment just now, so you must be conscious of this to avoid aggravating the condition. Read also this article at this link about more every day tips to avoid aggravating pain : http://www.globalspine.net/correct_lifting_position.html. . These postural corrections will offer natural relief. This link I am giving further also advises on how to sit while driving etc: http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/0300/0359.asp?index=4485. About traction: it is initially advised to take the pressure off. It has its uses. On whether to continue or not, your spine expert would be the best person to advise you on it. If you feel worried, I suggest you seek a second opinion from another spine consultant.

Yoga has a miraculous effect if its guidelines are properly followed. I know of spine specialists like Dr Vrajresh Shah in Borivli west who recommend yoga, in the healing phase, to their patients. I hope this answers your query.
