Nuclear experts / regulators need to answer this question first..
by Peter Parker on Aug 28, 2007 07:43 PM

Why is it that we have suddenly developed a crunch for nuclear raw material?
When was this first understood and why were the nuclear power generation estimates not revised.
Clearly if there was a shortfall, then power generation estimates from nuclear power were optimistic rather than realistic. Why wasnt this conveyed to the indian public / media?
Something just doesnt make sense. First we say that we are completely self-sufficient in the nuclear sector, then we claim that we need technology in this sector especially for reprocessing? Finally we claim that we are running out of uranium but have never developed new mines in india itself?
To me all these ex-AEC types are beating around the bush. They also havent answered conclusively whether the indian deterence is actually working like it claims. Within the AEC itself there is doubt about the fusion device.
Maybe Mr Shrinivasan should address these questions first.
