Why Dalits are angry
by Shantan on Dec 05, 2006 10:46 PM

Dear Dr. Udit,

I can perfectly understand why Dalits rioted after their icon's statue was desecrated. But, how can any individuals take the law into their own hands, however mighty the cause may be? Reading your article, it seems that you're justifying the behaviour of a few goondas and rogues. In India, it's a habit to glorify poverty and backwardness. Everybody seems to work for the "poor" but nobody's lot improves except their own. It's a national problem but the SCs & STs in this country seem to perennially blame the middle-class for their problems. Our ancestors committed some sins against your ancestors, but that doesn't mean we should be penalized for it. We're not your enemies, we want to see everybody do well in this country so that OUR country develops. Let's not fall prey to the designs of the selfish politicians by fighting amongst ourselves.

There is only one Caste; The Caste of Humanity.
There is only one Religion; The Religion of Love.

Regards,
Shantan
