Phone Banking
by Anu Srinivasan on Jul 18, 2007 04:12 PM

Its not just nationalised banks but even so-called foreign banks lile Standard Chartered,Citibank,HSBC etc make you run from one call centre executive to another, who keep giving you oral "assurances" that things will be done.(the std phrase is "I assure you madam/sir....everytime someone parrots that I can feel my bile rising). Except that things are never done, not without at least 5-6 calls each time to a different person, until you are ready to explode and open an account with a nationalised bank. And they charge the earth for even simple services. At one of these foreign banks a Payable at par chequebook with 25 leaves costs Rs.375, and a debit card is charged Rs.100/yr for maintenance. What maintenance?!

With nationalised banks,at least you dont expect any great service and you know you will have to run around.
