RE:Senior Players want to protect their places ...

Agreed. Sachin is too old for ODI's. Dravid must be given a young team to start with. Seniors for test matches only. ODI needs young blood.
It shows in the attitude of these crickets on and off the field.
It also shows the media dictates a lot of it.
The fans add to it substantially because their crazy obsessions with some individual players overshadows their THOUGHT INDIA AS A TEAM FIRST! You get what you ask for!
Ha ha, very good loss and good riddance from the world cup!
Bottomline is keep watching cricket and keep killing those money-starved local sports!!

Very correct. If anything blame this media who in order to get cheap publicity goes overboard in creating the hype. They made superstars out of ordinary players just for their commercial greed. Why do people expect a 100 from Sachin everytime he bats? He has never claimed that he alone can win the games or that he is a genius. He always says that it is a team game and he is one of the 11 players. The media and fans made him a demi god and have such huge expectations which puts enormous pressure on an individual. I am sure that if this happened to someone like Viv Richards or even Greg Chappell they would not have survived under such high expectations. Such expectations and hype are reaching manic proportions that it is destroying the players.

Well said bro.. I have been reading some articles and such for the past couple of days abt indian cricket.. Bishan Bedi said "I don't know what will be better for Indian cricket.. winning the cup or noto winning the cup". I guess we lost and we lost so badly is a good thing hopefully. This will pull out the axe on some of the players who take their place for granted, be it sachin, saurav, yuvraj, bhajji etc.. Honestly speaking, none of our players performed in the WC.. you need 11 to perform and in our case all the 11 failed.
Forget the past and learn from the mistakes. Some suggestions for the future which I would like to make would include. 1) Avoid playing too much cricket (reduce the number of matches played) 2) Physical fitness, we were probably the least fit team in the tournament or maybe pakistan was the worse but the point made. 3) Fielding is as important as batting and bowling and we need to set certain standards for that and not allow any exceptions.. I am sure you all saw the catch murli took to dismiss ganguly and the attempt he made to catch uthappa. 4) Mental fitness. Frankly speaking, our team was not mentally prepared to win the cup. They lacked the spirit, killer instinct and they were led by a non-agressive captian - no offence to dravid fans. 5) set the standards high in the ranji. have a different style of pitches.. dont have pitches to suit only spin bowling because the fact is not all matches are played at home. Have green surfaces. 6) Last but least, media and people have to treat players as humans and not gods, all sports have failures and india had a bad tournament. its unfortunate but lets face it, it doesnt change nothing in our daily schedule. so lets just watch and enjoy the sport instead of "breathing" cricket. I could go on and on and by now a lot of you want me to stop writing.. so any comment are welcome.

Well Sai, Mr.Harinder Toor. Of all the people who are posting their thoughts, you seem to be level headed and have given good suggestions. But, one thing I cannot really agree with you is: Rahul Dravid is not aggressive captain. He's an agressive, superb strategist and a shrewd captain. Remember, he's led india to a record 17 consecutive victoryin chasing targets. The ganguly issue, created & orchestrated well by the media and the sudden reverse in WI & Dilip Vengsarkar's support for seniority over young guns (overlooking the fielding aspect) has had a great effect on his & coach greg chappels' plans. Now is the time to correct this. Ganguly,Sachin,Kumble,Agarkar,Sehwag should retire gracefully and make way for the younger, fitter brigade and Who better than Rahul Dravid to guide them for a couple of years? After this, Dinesh Karthik or Dhoni can be made captain. The best example is Greame Smith of South Africa. He's quite young, energetic and is leading the side well.

Who are these young brigades???..All the performing youngsters are doing well in Test matches in Ranji trophies. The problem in India is the lack of competetive domestic matches...something like the Australian domestic league or County championship in England....
